How cheap can you go and still be happy with the sound?
Don't get me too wrong, I can sometimes kind of enjoy listening to iphone when I have nothing better at the moment. Yes, this is audiophile forum and standards should be high enough. $10k is not much really.

Let's not be ridiculous. Good sound has a cost and it should. I don't think there is anything under $10k-$15k that would qualify. Assuming one source.
What is the lowest voltage acceptable ?
The older PS Audio Power Plant Premier works well with my 60 watt/ch tube integrated amp. It worked well with my previous SS 80 watt/ch amp as well. Dynamics is not compromised. Everything is significantly better than without it or with older Furm...

Furman should do just fine. I use older PS Audio regenerator that does voltage regulation too, in addition to other things. They are quite expensive even used and don't always work with powerful power amps, it depends on particular model.
Warm, yet detailed tube preamp
I think, VAC should be mentioned, though I don't know how it would match with your power amp. And NOS better Mullard tubes.
Does it have to sound good for you to like it?
Similar to live music, how else ?
Do you belong more to souce first or to speakers first school of thought ?
Actually, there are people advocating amp or preamp/amp first approach. I understand them, especially if they talk tube equipment.
Would you move to a bigger house if you could just to have a better listening room ?
Hi pinthrift, Your room is a big challenge indeed, it's good that you managed to make it work.
What was the most expensive record that you ever bought ?
Unless I missed it, no one seems to have bought expensive jazz records, and there are some.
Would you still pay $10k or more for a turntable not full analog front end these days ?
Well, the man wants to maintain his stance, why not just let him be ? I disagree with him too but feel no need to argue.

On the other hand, I don't want to 'imagine' how it should sound, I want to hear sounds as close to the reality as possible. It is not possible to get deep into the music if you don't hear enough of it. It makes no difference whether you are a pro...

immatthewj, of course the better your rig is the more you hear all the distortion and noise and compression and lack of things that should be there, but on the other hand you also hear more of what you want to hear. I strongly prefer this to heari...
Best 12AU7?
I see no reason to even consider reissues for small tubes.
Which has a greater influence on sound quality, the amp or the preamp?
Yes, but there is always a point when it is time to upgrade speakers too.
Which has a greater influence on sound quality, the amp or the preamp?
I may be wrong but I have an impression that quite a number of audiophiles use different brands of preamp and power amp. Many also think that it is in fact more difficult to make a great preamp than power amp. Besides, synergy doesn't mean it must...
