Nakamichi RX-505 and some nice tapes for it
Well, twenty years ago I bought my Nak for about $450 in near new condition. It should cost two-three times more now. That would be fair price. There are fewer of them and more people become interested.RX-500 in excellent condition should probably...
Nakamichi RX-505 and some nice tapes for it
Oh, forgot to mention interconnect cables. They are very important both for the recording and the reproduction. I currently use Wywires Diamond for both. Step down for me would be Purist Neptune. Wywires Platinum is excellent too, better for repro...
Nakamichi RX-505 and some nice tapes for it
A few considerations when recording.Take the signal directly off the phono stage. Usually there is more than enough gain.Turn the volume of the system way down - you want as little external vibration as possible.Isolate deck with some cones or pad...
Nakamichi RX-505 and some nice tapes for it
chakster,I have a small quantity of sealed Vertex tapes that I bought years ago for about $50 a piece. Still a lot.I never tried Teac cassettes. I do prefer, generally speaking, Maxell to TDK, though as I mentioned TDK MA-R and MA-XG are excellent...
Tchernov cables. Anyone knows anything about them?
Mike, I already sold them.
Nakamichi RX-505 and some nice tapes for it
For type II tape Maxell XLII-S  and for metal Maxell MX-S is what I would use if I wanted to just record something. To go higher you would need TDK MA-XG or older MA-R. Top level is Maxell Metal Vertex, that is what I use exclusively. RX-550 is no...
Favorite obsolete formats.....
Everything analogue is what I miss. I have a finely tuned and customized Nak 682ZX that I play every other day. I make compilations off vinyl and cds. And I use $2.4k retail interconnects with it. And the very best cassettes - Maxell Metal Vertex....
A different view of power cords
Wrong power cords, at least for those particular pieces of equipment.
Wilson Audio Specialties Chronosonic XVX loudspeaker!! only $300,000.oo
I think, most of very expensive audio equipment goes to Asia these days. What some say about how it is here applies even more there.Few hard working people will spend million dollars on a "stupid stereo'. Some will but those will be more of excepti...
Favorite cable brand.
The current favourite is Wywires Diamond.
Wilson Audio Specialties Chronosonic XVX loudspeaker!! only $300,000.oo
Right. Regardless of cost I am always interested in the very best equipment, in what is possible to achieve in sound reproduction. If these Wilsons are among a handful of the very best speakers available then it is perfectly fine that they cost $3...
Wilson Audio Specialties Chronosonic XVX loudspeaker!! only $300,000.oo
I do understand, though, that these obscene prices are insult to many. This is not necessarily an envy or not only envy. Most jobs don't pay that well to own such a system. When we speak of, say, $100k system, that's different. It is still very ex...
Wilson Audio Specialties Chronosonic XVX loudspeaker!! only $300,000.oo
Some people here try to touch upon the concept of intrinsic value, and rightly so.As for the look, they look alright to me, they are speakers not whatever, you know. With speakers costing that much we are talking about close to a million dollars sy...
Cables, just as important as a hi end component?
Nirvana SX-1 are famous cables, I didn't try them, though. I think, Chesky Records used them as microphone cables. That alone says a lot. What happened to Nirvana company ?Yeah, not in absolute terms, but really good cables make a big difference. ...
Wow, $10k+ cables
duddley, right. But you need to know when to stop upgrading cables and cords and proceed further with active components upgrades.I currently have $2.4k retail pair of interconnects between $1k preamp and $2.5k power amp and I think that's about en...
