Class D amplifiers. What's the future look like?
I hope Reel-to-Reel comeback will happen, even if the scope of it is limited. There is nothing like tape.
Class D amplifiers. What's the future look like?
No-one will remember this class D in twenty years, and no- one really needs it except a few fashionistas. But we do need a completely new amplification device to be invented, both tubes and transistors virtually exhausted their potential. This is ...
Class D amplifiers. What's the future look like?
All the great recordings of 50s, 60s and some 70s were made with tube equipment, they will continue sounding their best with tube equipment. As for other recordings, well, this might eventually be different. Not my area of interest, anyway, I wi...
All Pre 1970 Vintage speakers suck! Prove me wrong
Any vintage speakers that sound as good overall as, say, JM Labs Grand Utopia ?
Real or Surreal. Do you throw accuracy out the window for "better" sound?
Certain music should have a bite on edges, if it is too smooth it won't sound right. The flow of any music should be coherently and continuously smooth but that's different meaning of smooth. As for the concept of "good enough", it's an interesti...
All Pre 1970 Vintage speakers suck! Prove me wrong
All speakers after 70s suck too, just in a different way. Don't prove me wrong, it's self-evident, just go and have a listen.

Reduced size, weight and cost are not benefits at all - they make the amps look less substantial. Kind of toys. Reduced heat is a plus, though, especially from ecological point of view.

Right. If there is full satisfaction there will be no journey. I wouldn't call it a problem, though, it's the way it is.
Tube Preamps Should Have This Feature
Life is long enough to spectacularly screw it up.
Tube Preamps Should Have This Feature
Well, maybe you need an inexpensive transistor preamplifier for that to complement you tube one. Just switch the cables, it's quick and easy.

The essence of music is conveyed via emotional component of it not via its mathematical constructs. But the mathematical constructs are necessary to make music happen at all. Most of the recordings that I listen to are quite bad. If I can somehow...
Tube Preamps Should Have This Feature
Tubes done right have a certain 'glory' in presentation, I don't think it can be replicated by transistors. It is felt in addition to heard. And speaking of tube power, with the right amp/speakers match, those 60 ultraliear watts that I get feel ...
Tube Preamps Should Have This Feature
Saving on groceries to buy more tubes is a great idea. What if the man already does it ? And what if his reasons have nothing to do with expenses ? Don’t know about other amps, in the case of my VAC it s advised to give it at least ten minutes to...
USB Cable
Not quite. USB cables do make some difference even with those piece of junk computers. I prefer Supra $55 cable to Wywires $300 cable and they are both much better in every respect than no name in the box cables. Try Supra first, they are sold on ...
Question: What are some of your best pieces of advise to someone new to the hobby?
Never audition a system that you cannot afford or for some other reasons cannot have. This is hazardous to your mental health. Don't rush it, take your time. Choose your speakers first.
