A question about tube rolling
mulveling and others, including me, are of course objectively correct, but this doesn't seem to be the point. The man wants to keep his current phono stage and bring out the best out of it. This means best tubes, and power cord can be important to...
Would it make sense and be safe to put power conditioner in front of PS Audio regenerator?
Yeah, after midnight it is almost always better. Problem is that you have to keep the volume down, though I can listen at moderate level at any time of the day, the building is built quite well.
Can you do anything to make power tubes last longer ?
Bill, I hear you. How about Montpelier, France or Tuscany, Italy ? You could try PS Audio's biggest regenerator, I guess. Who else makes this stuff ? Then there is a German company that makes some very expensive batteries to use with audio equip...

I wonder if audiophile grade outlet would help. No idea about wiring quality.
Can you do anything to make power tubes last longer ?
I'd say, in the case of my VAC it is 10 minutes of warm up minimum, I usually do a little more than that for critical listening. And VAC's manual says the same - 10 minutes before tubes warm up fully, especially if you want to check the bias befor...
Have you been enjoying your Gryphon Diablo 120 integrated ?
Yeah, I guess it will very much depend on the speakers it is used with, preferences and db level you play at. However, 120 Gryphon watts is not little. Still, very hard to choose without comparing side by side.
Is there usually a dramatic difference between $5k and $10k cartridges ?
Kiseki Purple Heart is highly thought of cartridge among those in the know. Beyond my reach, or the capability of my phono stage.

Put the Mullards XF2 in. Great tubes, probably need a little of burn in time. So much better than SEDs. Hold the bias perfectly. Should’ve bought them when I bought the amp. Noble, balanced sound.
Mullard EL34 that sounds best
Mullards XF2s are in my VAC Avatar SE. I'll give them a burn in time of a few dozen hours. But it's clear right away that they are far superior to SEDs in every respect. The most striking difference is how well they present the performing space, h...
Japanese tube amps. Wavac, Air Tight, Audio Tekne, Komuro etc.
Yes, many high end brands are not discussed here or discussed very little. I don't know why. I can understand that not many have one of those Japanese amps or Nagra but still. Even VAC and Lamm are rarely talked about. Accuphase, Gryphon, Soulutio...

I am not going to replace the Premier for as long as it works properly. Yes, I heard it is no longer serviced by PS Audio. I wouldn't exactly expect dramatic improvement from the newer regenerators, significant improvents perhaps. But the wall c...

In other words, I can set the bias as low as I want to until the point when I hear the deterioration of the sound quality. Setting bias by the ear not by manufacturer's recommendation.
Would it make sense and be safe to put power conditioner in front of PS Audio regenerator?
Just checked the Premier. The input voltage it shows is 119 and the output voltage is 121. Why does it increase the voltage when 119 volts is perfectly fine ? You can't adjust the output voltage, or frequency. Do you think that newer PS Audio P5 ...
Would it make sense and be safe to put power conditioner in front of PS Audio regenerator?
I see. I won’t do it. I use Purist Audio power cord from the wall to the PS Audio Premier and the connection is tight. Without the regenerator it is incomparably worse, everything should be plugged in it.
Cartridge - sweet spot on the cost/sound curve?
It is also determined by how good your table/arm/phono stage are. And by the rest of your system, for that matter. $500 cartridge in a $100k system is definitely not going to be the best value but $5k one can be.
