room size question. Well, two things: You listed your gear but I am not familiar with any of it (which doesn’t mean anything as a couple of decades ago I quit keeping up on this stuff) but I did find in the decade before, that as I gradually upgraded the electronics...
room size question. if i go wider, then it just sounds like 2 speakers playing and have no center imagining at all. i have center imagining.....but i am not getting anything more than that. So no matter the distance you put your speakers at, no happy med...
room size question. i get that toe in plays a part....but if toe in sounds terrible, which i have said it does, then why toe them in ? if i go wider, then it just sounds like 2 speakers playing and have no center imagining at all. @bshaw , I don’t make any claims...
Why does pulling out main speakers from wall improve sound? That question interests me as well. I have always assumed that it would add depth to the sound stage.
System set up in front of corner Vs flat wall - acoustical issues? So that the configuration will be more diamond shaped than rectangular shaped. That’s interesting . . . I’ve wondered about that myself. I would think that the rack being in front of the corner would have some acoustic effect, and I am assuming ...
System set up in front of corner Vs flat wall - acoustical issues? Am I misunderstanding your question? It almost reads to me as if you are wondering about using one of the corners of your room as the back drop for the speakers versus one of the flat walls being the back plane for your speakers?
How long does it take a decent quality speaker to "wear out"? @dekay , I remember you mentioning that back when I was inquiring about 5AR4s. I am hoping that I am not as hard on rectifier tubes as you are on glasses.
Lack of Female Representation I've been in the same home for 30 years now. Every couple years we have the septic tank pumped. Always without fail it is done by a man. Never once has a woman come out. I've never had a male dental hygienist.
How long does it take a decent quality speaker to "wear out"? @dekay , thanks for asking. Well, I went on a used 5AR4 buying binge of sorts --a UK Amperex, a Holland Amperex, and a Hitachi/(Matsushita?); and I have a Gold Lion I bought prior to that and the original Sovtec, so if nothing else, (given my ag...
A Word Of Thanks I missed your original thread but I am happy for you and the good news.

Cable advice About 25 years ago, I asked a gentleman who sells NOS tubes (an individual who most on A'Gon seem to have a lot of respect for) about mixing tube brands in a certain application. He told me it wasn't his favorite thing, but not as bad as mixing c...
Power cable break in? This is a serious question, not sarcasm: if a power cable requires breaking, doesn't it stand to reason that brand new Romex in a brand new circuit would also need break in time?
How long does it take a decent quality speaker to "wear out"? @ghdprentice , as a matter of fact, my speakers are the older 805 Matrixes. I think I've owned them about 25 years. (I did have to redo the cone suspension on my M&K sub twice in those 30 years.)
How long does it take a decent quality speaker to "wear out"? . . . @erik_squires , if I remember correctly, B&W claims that the midrange drivers are made of Kevlar & the tweeter of titanium. |
