Tubes Recommendation for McIntosh Preamp
@xcool  , did you replace your SLP-05?
The Midnight Effect - Who-How?
I heard it on Friday/Saturday morning and it was almost like someone had flicked a switch. Or more like someone had suddenly placed extensive acoustic treatments in the room.. the soundstage just opened up in all directions and the sense of prese...
Thumbs up to Cary Audio Service
@heart_sounds , Kirk Owens was the absolute best! No matter how big or small my problem/question, he always had time to give me his attention. He inspired my loyalty to CAD. Anyway, what you might do is to post your issue in the amps/preamps foru...
Thumbs up to Cary Audio Service
@heart_sounds , a few years ago I was having an issue with my Cary V-12. I tryed to call tech support on the phone, but they told me they no longer offer telephone tech support and to email them. I sent more than one email asking for troubleshooti...
The Midnight Effect - Who-How?
For a few years if I was back in my listening room and listening, I was drinking.  I have  cut way back since then  (I am on Miller 64 these days, and it doesn't taste good enough to make me want more than a couple of bottles) and listening isn't ...
The desperate need to tinker
In my old age, I now reside in the camp that does not want to screw with stuff unless I have to.
The Psychology of Constant (Equipment) Change
borderline This may speak volumes.
The Psychology of Constant (Equipment) Change
A narrow mind member here 4 years ago accused me of killing people because i spoke about Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine instead of remdesivir and injection ... He confused me with a pro Trump at this time.. Guess who was right ? @mahgister  ...
The Psychology of Constant (Equipment) Change
But while very expensive gear is not a magic solution to getting better sound better gear is a very important element. And long posts about acoustics and the brain don’t justify ignoring the gear factor. +1 @hilde45  .
The Psychology of Constant (Equipment) Change
there are worse addictions to have than high end audio gear. +1 on that, @jond  .
At what point do you...
Back when I had more money than brains (and that's going back a while . . . now I don't have an excess of either) I always (except for once) bought new. The exception was a pair of ARC VTM120s that I bought from the classified section in Stereophi...
12AX7A preamp tubes - ribbed vs smooth plate
I thought preempt tubes were a way to describe use of this tube within an amplifier (ie taking the week analogue level signal from the pre-amplifier and turning it into a stronger line Signal) and is this also considered to be a signal tube? I’...
12AX7A preamp tubes - ribbed vs smooth plate
. . . ohhh, so they are MC9011s? I just did a cursory read on them--interesting amps.  Anyway, Mac is calling the two 12AX7s the signal tubes for the amp.  Which is not what I would call a "preamp tube"  (I would call a preamp tube a tube in the p...
Are there other people like me ? Amazed by their low cost system :)
I will really like to hear others people experience with a relatively low cost piece of gear or a relatively low cost system... "relatively" means the price matter not, That’s an interesting definition of "relatively." So if the cost doesn’t m...
12AX7A preamp tubes - ribbed vs smooth plate
It's a mono block amplifier with 8 KT 88 and 6 small tubes (  4 rectifier, 2 preamp). I assume the "2 preamp" tubes are the amps input tubes or driver tubes?
