How to couple my monitors to stands???
I use blue-tak. Works GREAT, is dirt cheap, and enhances the sound. I don't think that any "angling" will change the sound too much, although I could be dead wrong. I say ditch the cones and use blue-tak. Cheers!
Most beautiful violin recording you have heard
Itzhak Perlman and John Williams: Cinema Serenade. Beautifully recorded, amazing performance. All the local dealers now have this CD after I demoed their equipment using it. Cheers!
Best Used Integated 1400 for B&W CDM1NT's
Heard Plinius extensively with B&W speakers, and it is the best sounding (to my ears) of all the aforementioned amps (except perhaps, for the Electrocompanient). Very warm, almost tubelike sound, SS grip, no fatigue. Try to get the 8150i...my ...
How To Burn CD's So It Will Play In Sony DVPS9000?
If the laser isn't calibrated to read the wavelengths reflected by the ink on CD-Rs, there's no way the machine will play them. CD-RW's reflect light in a completely different way, but the wavelength reflected is very similar to CD's, just MUCH lo...
Attention Texas 'Philes
Thanks to everyone who responded by e-mail. I've got about 20 people interested so far, and the number keeps growing. Should be a great time! It's about time us Texas 'Philes banded together! Cheers!Brian
My first Jazz cd
First Five to buy:Miles Davis: Kind of Blue. If you own a Jazz collection, you must own this CD. It's a given.Charlie Mingus: Ah-Um. GREAT album. Great players. Great recording.Weather Report: Heavy Weather. Great '70s side of Jazz. Jaco Pastorius...
Exactly what is oversampling?
I forgot the second part of your question. No, just because the DAC over/upsamples, it doens't mean it's good. Or even adequate. There are SO many engineering challenges in designing quality digital equipment, and the DAC is only one small part of...
Exactly what is oversampling?
OVER-sampling is something that nearly EVERY CD player does. Oversampling basically mulipies the frequency of the input by a number (generally something like 4x, 8x, or 32x) to match the operating frequency of the DAC. This also gets rid of some o...
What Headphones? Looking to upgrade..........
Get yourself a Creek OBH-11 Headphone amp and Sennheiser 600's. You wouldn't be happier, unless you got a 45 based tube amp to drive them instead, but that's almost overkill. Cheers!
Triangle Monitors--Port Noise Complaint
I agree. I own a pair of Triangle Titus's. I did a similar test with warble tones down to 50 hertz or so, and the chuffing was a little noticable. However, with any realistic music and instruments, it is just not there. I don't believe that any of...
Best speaker cable for B&W?
My dad has Harmonic Tech Pro-9 Plus Bi-wires with his B&W 803's. VERY VERY good sound. Much more bass response and tautness...more extended highs. Purer midrange. Great buy! Was an upgrade from a dual run bi-wire set of Audioquest indigo+'s. V...
explain bits.
A sixteen bit CD player is a standard DAC. A DAC works to convert digital to analog by inputing the binary word (in this case 16 bits long) into a resistor ladder, which converts the information into a voltage. The longer the word length, the more...
Why do no audio enthusiasts use McIntosh?
I'll agree with Sugarbrie on this one. I do think that Mac is what a lot of Bose owners dream of. Mac has been around for a LONG time, and many people who aren't educated as to what is out there hold that Bose is #2, Mac is #1. I know that quite a...
Need speaker cable recommendations ...
Audition a bunch on loan. Go to home depot and get that zip cord and terminate it. Then get some loaner cables (Harmonic Tech, Analysis, Kimber 8TC) and compare. If you don't think the extra cost is justified, don't buy. It's very simple (make sur...
Trying to keep parents out of Circut-City
Man, get the Creek. Like it MUCH better than the Cambridge. More musical...more alive. Heard it with 302's...really dug the sound for the price. Good choice (down with Circuit City!) Happy Listening!
