Review: Polk Audio SDA-2 Speaker
I had a pair of SDA-2s for about a week many years ago when they first came out. I was powering them with a Denon POA-1500 solid state amp rated at 150 watts/ch. BUT they were not delivering much in the way of current. As it turned out, the SDA ca...
Amp for Vandersteens 2ce sig 2's
I am having great musical success with an SMc Audio modified McCormack DNA-1 Deluxe with my Vandy 3A Sigs. I have yet to read any correspondence about unsatisfactory results with such a combination. Either a DNA-1 or DNA - .5 should do the trick.
What amp next for Vandersteens?
If you are wanting a more refined sound, consider a SMc modified McCormack amp. Every so often they appear on Audiogon for sale or you can purchase a used amp and have it modified to suit your sonic preferences. Steve McCormack and Kris Jeter at S...
Preamp Suggestions to replace a CJ PV-12AL
The cj is a fine sounding piece. If you want more from it, you might consider having it modified to improve its sound in the way you desire. Consider RHB Dezigns for your mod. They did a beautiful job with my cj PV-12L. The sound still has the cha...
How does the Cambridge Azur 840C sound compared
the 840C is CD only.
Conrad Johnson MV60SE vs. Audio Research VS55
IMHO, cj always trumps Audio Research. Over many years of comparing the 2 brands, cj gear sounds more like real, live music. The AR gear has a slight electronic "glaze" over the sound that makes the music sound more "reproduced" than "produced".
How Much DC is OK on a Power Line?
Power regenerators do NOT remove DC. I use a PS Audio Premier Power Plant in conjunction with the Humbuster III to eliminate the DC on the line that is not addressed by a regenerator.
How Much DC is OK on a Power Line?
The PS Audio Humbuster III is working well in my system. It's main goal is to eliminate as much DC as possible coming into the system. My system isn't humming.
Is Upgrading Degrading?
I have noticed recently less of an interest in reading reviews in Stereophile and TAS as well as the many online publications since I finished "tuning" my system after years of investment in gear of all kinds. My shift is clearly to music and I fi...
Transiberian Orcestra
Saw their Christmas show 2 years ago in Philly. I had never even heard of them before that concert. Subsequent to that I have purchased all of their albums and enjoy them greatly. A wonderful marriage of metal and classical forms! The icing on the...
Pre/Amp/Int for Vandersteen 2ce Sig II for +/-$3k
McCormack amps have a long tradition with Richard Vandersteen. Richard used to show his speakers at Audiophile events with Steve McCormack's amps on a regular basis. A nice synergy! I have a SMc Audio modified McCormack amp powering my Vandy 3A Si...
Can you recommend some classical CD's for me?
One of the reasons I chose Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven as a place to start is their symphonies follow the classical period pattern of exposition, development, recapitulation that provides a sense of "order" and comfort. The psychological effect can b...
Addiction to Brand
Vandersteens for me. From original 2Cs to model 3 upgraded to 3A and then to 3A Signature
Can you recommend some classical CD's for me?
It all starts with Mozart. I have the entire Telarc collection with Charles Mackerras conducted Mozart symphonies performed by the Prague Chamber Orchestra. Great sound of outstanding performances. I can't imagine not enjoying any of these symphon...
Vandersteen 3A sig , on the naked
I would not expect the "naked" Vandies to be finished well inside the sock. You will also alter the intended sound by removing the sock. The speakers were "voiced" with the sock in place. If you do "strip" them, however, I look forward to reading a...
