Pre-amp synergy with DNA- 225 and 500? It is probably not too far-fetched that McC and cj have collaborated and listened to their respective gear in systems containing both brands. Truth be told cj tube preamps mated with McC amps have been a good match since before cj bought out McC.
Conrad Johnson PV-10A mod experiences? I had my PV-12L extensively modified by RHB Dezigns located in Churchville, PA. Proprietor, Bob Backert designs his own proprietary circuits for the gear he modifies. He loves to work on cj gear! You can talk to him, discuss your sonic goals for y...
Pre-amp synergy with DNA- 225 and 500? You might just contact McCormack in Virginia or contact Steve McCormack directly at SMc Audio where he modifies McComack gear.
What is “warmth” and how do you get it? Byroncunningham,After looking at your excellent system, I'd like you to consider one inexpensive addition that may tune just a bit more smoothness and warmth into your system without a loss of dynamics or bass slam. I have been working for a very ...
What is “warmth” and how do you get it? "Warmth" is a very difficult characteristic to describe with adjectives. It's for me, the way real instruments sound in an acoustically neutral environment. Right now I'm listening to Strunz and Farah. They are both master acoustic guitarists. I h...
Anyone use CD tweaks Yea. Give Herbie's Black Hole CD mat a try. It is meant be adhered to a disc permanently. It stabilizes the rapidly spinning disk in the drawer and damps the inherent resonance within the disc as it is being played. The music is more coherent acro...

Preamp modifications - who would you use? Phaelon is right on. I can't imagine better results than can be obtained by Bob Backert of RHB Dezigns. Bob will analyze the circuit design and implementation and recommend what he can do and how each improvement will effect the sound of the gear....
Sonic differences between CAT5 and CAT6 cables? I apologize in advance for any terseness present in this posting, but for Heaven's sake, forget about CAT 5, 6 or 6000 for that matter! There are so many fine sounding, well constructed, reasonably priced speaker cables available that using "compu...
Calling Vandersteen Subwoofer Users I have a McCormack DNA-1 and two 2wq subs pugged into one Duet with very good results. The rest of the system receives its power from a PPP.Go for it!!
Mixing different brand cables a good idea or not? After so much tinkering with cables and footers to "tune" my system, I have found that it may be best to select cables that complement the timbre of your individual components regardless of the manufacturer. One example, I have a Kimber Select 102...
McCormack vs. Bryston amps Richard V. when demonstrating his speakers with a SS amp almost always used McCormack designs. When demonstrating with tubes he usually uses Audio Research gear. One advantage of Mc gear is that you can have it upgraded by SmC Audio as your budget ...
Audioquest colorado sound to bright Stringreen,I don't believe AQ ever implied that interconnect break-in was not necessary with DBS. DBS helps to keep a worn-in dialectric sounding good even after periods of time when the cable has not had a signal flowing through it.
Audioquest colorado sound to bright Hmmmm. I bought a pair of Colorado's to slightly tame the high end of my CDP. Compared to the Kimber Select they replaced they did as I had hoped. This is the first time I've heard the Colorado's described as "bright". |
