Tube cage on or off during use
My Fisher mono's sound better without the cages. Not sure if it is because of vibration/resonance, or, shielding.
Audioquest pt-6 tonearm?
It is known in the industry as a Linn type mounting. Distance from the platter spindle however might not be correct for all arms designed with the Linn mounting pattern. If the effective length of an arm is the same as the P6 then you will be OK.
purchased the firebird on deutsche grammophon
The Carmen Fantasy is awesome.
Why does my new tube amp and preamp sound so bad?
If you are encouraged enough to go further with a complete tube system, my advice would be to put aside both preamps and find one with tube rectification. A used Cary SLP90, 94, or, 98 would be an excellent choice if you want to keep it in the Car...
Totem Hawks vs. Forest
Note that the Forest is Totem's most efficient speaker. I am VERY happy with 15 to 20 watt tube mono amps.
Removing Oak Side Rails From Magnepans
Don't know about the Tympanies, but, I removed the rails from the tweeter side of my IIIA's and it improved the sound dramatically. I believe it mostly has to do with dispersion being interrupted by the edge rails. I left the other side in place b...
Really basic brush question
The answer is that you throw away the "audiophile approved" carbon fiber brush and get a cheapo, classic, Disc Washer brush. The dust will be lifted off with the brush. Sorry, but I bought one of those carbon brushes after reading about them for y...
Audio Note Soro SE Uh Cool
Just curious, is the Soro an integrated version of the P2SE, or is it a 6BQ5 amp like the Ono?
Totem Forest or Totem Mani 2
I've never lived with the Mani 2, but I love my Forest's. One thing to keep in mind is that the Forest is comparatively much more efficient and would be the better choice if you were ever interested in going the low powered amp route. Don't judge ...
Totem Forest or Thiel CS2.3 ?
Another appealing thing about the Forest is that you can drive them with lowish power if you ever decide to go that route. I am using 15 watt tube amps and the sound is fantastic. They claim the impedance never drops below 6 ohms.
Any experience with Van Slyke Engineering?
Yes Drubin, I must agree that those ads are odd. They remind me of the old Robert Lucas ads for do it yourself electrostatic speakers. Remember those? Please don't be offended, Mr. Paul Van Slyke, but, it is the weirdness of the ads that scares me...
AES Six Pacs Monoblock Amps and AE-3 DJH Pre-Amp
Please keep us informed as you get more aquainted with the amps. They have looked very appealing to me but I can't audition them anywhere nearby. I have owned Cary and they are a real good company to deal with as far as service is concerned. By th...
Do reel to reel tapes fade over time...
Yes, they can be expected to fade over time, but It may also depend on the quality of the tape itself and the storage climate. I never did anything special as far as storage goes, but I recently listened to some that I made in the early 70's on BA...
Phase inverted..why?
Would someone please answer Wstritt's question. I have always wanted to know this. Wouldn't reversing the internal wires to the preamp's output jacks put the signal back to correct phase?
Is tube "thunder" power related?
I have found the tubes in this unit to be noisy by nature. Wright was kind enough to replace mine for this same reason. It is not a hum problem, but a "tube rush" sound along with some sputtering. Oddly, the new ones were also noisy, but sounded s...
