Tube Buffer
tomic, stereo5, kalali, many thanks for sharing your knowledge.I'm pleased to know the Rogue RP5 beats the Peachtree sonically. I had been thinking more of functionality, but this is more than a bonus. And I will never quite be ALL balanced in the...
Tube Buffer
Herron. Hmm, not familiar; will read up on it and be ready when the time arrives. Thanks.
Why stream?
Very helpful. Thanks to above explanations I'm getting my bearings in this new (to me) world of streaming. All digital sources are played through the streamer/DAC with balanced XLR output to preamp, and all streaming is for critical listening exce...
Why stream?
Thanks, everyone! Very helpful on all fronts. Yes I am one who can hear (and dislike) compressed formats, yes I am of the over-60 generation, and yes I will compare Qobuz -- maybe today or tomorrow as time allows. Now, as for discovering new music:...
Why stream?
Believe I was misled by a sales pitch implying higher-than-USB fidelity. Thanks to you I now see that streaming hi-fi has only been playing catch-up, and everybody else knew this. Gracias for the orientation, which is exactly what I had come looki...
CD Player vs. music streaming
Given your particular situation, why not have your cake and eat it too with https://www.audioadvice.com/cambridge-audio-851c-dac-cd-player-digital-preamp+color-Silver. CD, Dac, Streamer in one box. Forget the preamp section and run it through your...
downloading music worth listening to on a computer
To be fair, iTunes library from Macbook Pro through Dragonfly Jitterbug to good Pangea USB cable to Grand Pre X-1 onboard DAC is more than tolerable. Not equal to FM tuner, but has its merit when Grand Pre tube buffer is active. Now toying with Ti...
Does raising speaker cables off the floor really make a big difference?
Running bi-wire cables along the top of the baseboard sure looks better. Whether it improves the sound I can't be sure. Definitely doesn't hurt, so just do it for cosmetic reasons and believe it sounds better if you're so inclined. Nobody can prov...
Cambridge Audio Azur 851N
On some devices, 6dB better. Or so they say.
Phonostage/preamp recommendations. Parasound JC3 Jr.?
Start at 90% of the best for 9% of the price. Cambridge Duo.
Why no “Break in” period?
Definitely something more than subjective acclimatization, albeit with no objective confirmation method. When a process unravels over time before your ears, with all other variables (local power demands, ambient atmospheres, etc.) controlled by re...
Need advice
If Hi-Fi Heaven hasn't yet sold my old (but perfect) Wharfedale EVO2-40s, priced I think at $850, you might love them. Elegantly stylish in rosewood with all accessories including white gloves, highly musical, a bargain even at their original reta...
Herbies Pucks floor spike protectors...
Put Herbie's giant pucks under spikes of Legacy Signature SE on suspended hardwood (parquet) floor. Sound appears more open than when on rubber feet, though this is preliminary and more positioning experiments are needed. Fortunately the pucks all...
Is the source the CD Transport or the DAC?
One could certainly "impact" the sound of a system by chopping a cable or two. But if one wanted to improve, brighten, deepen, clarify, resolve, open, intensify, or otherwise modify the sound, the previous answers would likely help.
Do speaker cables need a burn in period?
The scariness of real people in high places: "Our threat lies not in the will to power, but in the urge to obey." Audiogon safety zone!
