HiFi vs MidFi
Very true about control of room acoustics. However, all else being equal in that dimension:Helped a friend, who had been without home hi-fi for decades, set up a new system for a smallish listening space. $1100 Cambridge streamer/DAC/digital pream...
Best Desktop Speakers under $500
Love my gorgeous powered Audioengine 2+ in red gloss finish with included stands. Those on the desk, paired with cheap subwoofer on the floor, all under $500 not counting the high-end cables that came free from the Currently Disused Cable Drawer. ...
On ''what there is''
What there is extends from Grado to Grace, Bluepoint to Goldfinger.+1Such a long and winding road to the simple answer. Sometimes it's more the journey than the destination.
On ''what there is''
Music is inside us not only outside us.... I can accept that. So the recording would spark the music within us. In what sense can it be said that music is within us? Perhaps, as we are what we eat, we are also what we hear (have heard). Though ...

I listen music now at least not sounds -- MahgisterIf you are not attending a live performance or hearing a live stream of a performance, then you are not listening to music, you are listening to recordings.
On ''what there is''
To recap: OP says his theme "sounds philosophical," which it does, but turns out he's simply praising the collective knowledge generated by the forum. Given that several powerful minds hang out around here, we went quickly to metaphysics, material...

"attaining outstanding powers of expression" - good Latinate pomposity. +1. That's marketing, not engineering.
American Audio
Has no one mentioned the obvious ARC?
Is bass the most important frequency band?
Every speaker upgrade of mine has been for deeper, cleaner bass. Always progress, never full satisfaction. So swarm still needed if I ever get the right listening room. Hardest band to get right for sure (to my ears).
why do so many discussions turn contentious?
Dr. Johnson, quoted above, had it right. Discord happens because all human activities are managed by fallible humans -- beings described in all literature as often cranky, forgetful, envious, stubborn, spiteful, petty, boastful, vengeful . . .  ex...
New Streamer Transport
Had the Lumin U1 Mini but found the control app full of bugs and output was sonically awful except from USB. Traded for Aurender whose Conductor app is better designed and which outputs ONLY USB. Which is fine, since other digital sources occupy d...
Returning to Vinyl
So much shared experience here, and all for free, what a bonanza! Absorbing every word I'm reading from you veterans who know the way. Key accessories will have been ordered by this time Monday, and some old record spun to get me oriented.
Returning to Vinyl
Got that box checked! Thanks Jim.
Returning to Vinyl
Many thanks to all for the tips and encouragement. Will definitely follow them up. Believe the right time has come. While vinyl is a hassle, I'm finding streaming falls well short of audio nirvana and is not without its own frustrations. Synching ...
