BaerWald vs VPI setup protractors
@2channel8,The Conrad Hoffman protractor includes two reference lines for measuring print accuracy, both vertical and horizontal. After printing one on standard office paper, using my cheapo Brother printer, I measured the lines with my Mitutoyo v...
BaerWald vs VPI setup protractors
I would never trust a printed on paper protractor on a high-end turntable. I’m an architect, and deal with skilled accurate drawings every day. Even with good quality printers on good heavy gauge bond paper things can be ever so slightly off. Firs...
BaerWald vs VPI setup protractors
@lewm I posted a link to the arc protractor software in my first post. It prints exactly 1:1 on most printers I've used.

If an OP mentions anything like this:Budget is about $10-15K for an amp and speakers.  ...AudioTroy invariably comes running to interject with his unparalled wisdom.
BaerWald vs VPI setup protractors
@cleeds The Conrad arc protractor does well without a mirror because of the thoughtful design of the grid layout. If one views the cantilever straight on (not quite from above, but as though one is looking down a barrel), it's quite obvious if it'...
BaerWald vs VPI setup protractors
I wasn’t very impressed with the VPI protractor - too many potential error points. My current table came with a similar protractor. It has the same problem, most notably the poor choice of grid lines and somewhat loose fit of the jig. Most of the ...
New Speakers up to $15k - The more I read the less I know!

Looks as though the dealers spooked the OP. Good job fellas!
Thorens Turntable and new Pearl cartridge
Sounds like you might have an intermittent break somewhere in your tonearm wiring.
Upgrading integrated...Vinnie Rossi Lio, Primaluna Dialogue, Used Moon?
I don't believe Rotel has similar genealogy to Yamaha. I've heard some Rotel amps, (can't remember the exact model) and they didn't sound like Yamahas. The Yammies have a somewhat unique way of being very clear and dynamic without being clinical o...
Cartridge replacment time
@chakster,Those Glanz cartridges certainly look impressive but I'd question the condition of the suspension material after "decades" of storage. I'd probably be willing to take a gamble if he were asking $200.
Best sounding compact integrated amp < $2k?
Who needs a forum when we have the Audio Doctor?
Technics 1200 Critic Fremer Praises the newer 1200G
@chakster At no point in this thread has the OP yet mentioned that he bought a Technics. HR of Stereophile conducted side by side tests of a mkii 1200 and PLX-1000, using the same carts. His conclusion is that they're equals in performance. So oth...
Cartridge replacment time
IMO, it’s impossible to beat the Shure M97xe and Jico SAS combo for a MM in that price range. It's not an ideal compliance match for your arm, but if the Grado worked, so the Shure surely will (pun intended).
Throughly disappointed with my new Yamaha A-3000 Integrated.......
^ I think it's the result of shipping. The bias is adjusted by simple trim pots on the top of each amp channel, near the heatsinks. Yamaha should be using some sort of tamper putty on them, unfortunately they don't and I wouldn't be surprised if r...
