Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker? @kijanki I think the bottom line is that if a driver is crossed over close to 4kHz, it’s covering most of a human’s vocal capability that falls within the most sensitive range of our hearing ability. It keeps the crossover away from the meat of th...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker? Eric,The only 3-ways I currently own are Klipsch Heresy IIIs. I just looked up their crossover point, it's a rather high 5kHz. These speakers still lack coherency unless listening from a distance of 11' or more. I would guess that is most likely d...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker? ^ Eric,Revel F206 : 2.1kHzMonitor Audio Silver 8: 2.7 kHzParadigm Monitor 11 v7: 2.2 kHzParadigm Persona 3: 2.4 kHzThe first 3 I auditioned extensively. I owned the Silver 8s for a year They all lacked some coherency IMO.
Golden ear triton 1 vs tekton double impact speakers ^ Sandy Gross doesn't even qualify as a "DIY'er." Even though Eric makes some outlandish claims, at least he has some real engineering cred.
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker? @erik_squires I'm not sure I follow, @helomech - Usually higher tweeter points are achieved with 3-way systems which use a "true" midrange. That's why I stated, "well designed examples."I know of quite a few 3-ways that are still crossed over to t...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker? @grannyring I made that point early on and it is one of the best advantages. That is why I also like a simple two way design. Nice post. My apologies, I overlooked it.
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker? Hmm...seems no one pointed out the real advantages of 2.5-ways (at least well designed examples). It's the same advantage of 2-ways: the high crossover point and resulting coherency. In a well designed 2-way, it's often difficult to make out the s...
Vandersteen 3A Sigs vs Klipsch Forte III @tomic601 No math required. In my particular experience, it's very easy to hear. I'm not saying wide baffles are inherently better at imaging. I'm sure the opposite is often true, but my experience tells me it's not a universal rule. Some of the b...
Vandersteen 3A Sigs vs Klipsch Forte III I have fairly large baffle, monkey coffin speakers and to my ears, they absolutely trounce most of the narrow baffle towers I've owned/auditioned. They also image better than the Maggie's I had for a time.
most advanced speaker in a rectangular wooden box? ^Any speaker is fighting the laws of physics. I've heard monkey coffins that can make some planars sound like a distorted mess.
Golden ear Technology reference I've also heard them for more than a few minutes. I thought the Triton 1s were more tolerable, but didn't care for them either. All the Triton speakers I auditioned were bright and fatiguing compared to the likes of B&W, Focal, and Revel, and ...
Missing the forest for the trees Are you referring to focusing on gear rather than music?

How is Devialet Expoert 1000 PRO's value???? good? Yes, I was referring to the 1000 Pro. I heard some Exposure 3010S2 separates shortly after my audition with the Devialet and thought that system was better, but that was with different speakers in a different room.If you're seriously considering t...
How is Devialet Expoert 1000 PRO's value???? good? Here's an interesting article on class D:https://www.soundandvision.com/content/bruno-putzeys-head-class-d This stuff really comes down to personal preference. By no means have I heard every iteration of class D, but I've heard quite a few and to ... |
