Aesthetic preamp @atmasphere I may have not been specific about the subs. I keep the frequency roll off the same, I just adjust the gain. I don’t have to adjust the volume that often, but can’t imagine not having complete control of the volume.
Aesthetic preamp @atmasphere : That is correct. I find older LP’s or cds that were not produced well, need different amounts of sub volume. I have my two JL Fathom113’s connected to a separate preamp, so I can adjust the gain, if need be. I read a blog today, tha...
Aesthetic preamp @elf1: I have the Calypso Signature and find it to be everything I need as far as the connectors go, (almost) as well as the sound. It, as others do, it has a muting circuit, which puts it into standby mode as soon as it’s powered up. The only t...
Jl audio fathom f212v2 noise and hum @esthlos13: I have a pair of Fathom 113’s. I connected them as master/slave, as well as independently and have not experienced and thumping noise. When I turn on my Sony E2000ESD I use as a remote control for independent volume, I hear a very sof...
Mono block or bi-amp IMO, it’s hard to properly bi-amp any speaker. You pretty much need an active crossover to get the proper power distribution.
Nature of Koetsu carts @rpm33: I have a Urushi Black and I love it. The warning I will give, is your tonearm has to have sufficient mass, for the Koetsu’s to properly perform. When I first mounted mine, it sounded very hollow. At the suggestion of Koetsu, I increased...
Vibration Issues / Turntable Decisions @Geoffkait - I tried the bungee cords and besides my near disaster, I found the TT, not being uniform in weight distribution, wouldn’t be level with the bungee cords. Guess I could have weighed my platform with weights to offset the difference, b...
Vibration Issues / Turntable Decisions As bdp24 suggested, hanging your platform from the ceiling is the answer, although I would not use bungee cords. I used bungee cords once only to come home and find my TT dangling. I use steel cables with turnbuckles to get the level just right. ...
CDs Vs LPs I failed to mention, CDs definitely have a place in my system. I have a Theta Miles CD player and there’s a huge difference between it and a standard CD player. I’m sure there are much better ones available now, but I love the Miles. I can play a ...
CDs Vs LPs IMO, there is no better medium than reel to reel running st 15ips. I think they went out of favor, due to inconvenience. When I did my internship at MCA in Nashville, we ran off demos from rtr onto cassettes. The quality difference was unmistakabl...
Talk but not walk? Shark infested waters✌️Michael certainly opened up a big can of worms. For those of you in the south, you may want to check out Carl Tatz. He recently set up MTSU’s studio with glowing reviews. Theyre rated as one of the best universities for Mass...
Vibration control/isolation experience @sjackso1: My first and only comment, would be I can’t think of a worse place to have your TT, than on the front wall. It’s common knowledge that bass frequencies usually build up at the front and back wall regions, thus adding acoustical feedba...
Valve phono stage +1 for the Aesthetix Rhea. Very versatile, fully balanced outputs, many impedance and gain selections and has a built in demagnetizer for MC cartridges. I absolutely love mine.
CDs Vs LPs @Elizabeth: We both dropped off the face of the earth a while, but I remember talking to you several years ago and you told me all about your LP collection, your VTL amps etc. You were very helpful with info, concerning re-setting up my vinyl rig...
Who said “ flat freq response “ is the best? You need to check out the Fletcher Munson curve. Our brains perceive frequencies at different levels, depending on the volume of the sound. Most people do not prefer a flat response. I set a room with equal volume in all frequencies about 30 years... |
