B&W CDM 9NT vs 804's
I had an opportunity to give the N804's an extended listen recently, and came away very impressed. My last session w/ these were over a year ago. The other day, using my personal amp, a crappy 15 year old Sony carousel CD player with patch cords a...
Question for Krell Kav-300il and 400xi owners?
Pasdrt, what power cord are you using? I'm still using the stock cord. What type of improvements can I expect if I upgrade? Thanks.
mccormack or odyssey
I got my VDH cables brand new from a guy here on Audiogon. There are a couple of different sellers now. They're all European dealers, BTW. With the fall of the dollar against the Euro, they're getting more and more expensive. I liked the VDH cable...
mccormack or odyssey
Jay, I had my Stratos for a solid year. I did try some different cabling. The VDH cables worked well in my system, I still have them. I never liked the way the Stratos amp handled the woofers in my speakers. It was lacking at lower volumes and sou...
Rotel vs Musical Fidelity
I recommend a more powerful amplifier. I have the CDM9 NT's. When I first got them they were paired with a 150 w/ch amp. Good. I upgraded to a 200 w/ch amp, GREAT! These speakers LOVE current. You may want to consider something along these lines. ...
mccormack or odyssey
Everyone here recommending the Odyssey has an "extreme" or monoblock configuration. These are probably significant upgrades from the Odyssey Stratos w/ the Cap upgrade you are asking about. I had this unit and it was only fine, not great. I sold i...
B&W CDM 9NT vs 804's
Everybody hears a little differently, I guess. Rlb61 has commented on the "boomy" nature of the CDM9's. I, along with most of the comments I've read regarding these speakers, disagree with that assessment. If anything, the knock on the CDM9's is t...
B&W CDM 9NT vs 804's
When I picked up my CDM9's the 1000 bucks(+ or -) wasn't worth the upgrade to the N804's. The speakers sounded somewhat similar. I second Rsbeck's suggestion for the N803's. Those were markedly better.
question re: poor bass response
The Krell replaced an Odyssey Stratos. Krell amps are known for their prodigious base response, and now I know why. The bass became palpable at all listening levels but very balanced, not overly pronounced. The difference between the amps was stri...
question re: poor bass response
I also was plagued by a poor bass response at low and mid volume levels with my B&W CDM9 NT floorstanding speakers. I improved upon this dramatically by uncoupling the speakers from the floor via soundcare spikes. I received a welcome increase...
B&W 602 S3 X Dynaudio 52?
I haven't heard any Dynaudio speakers, so I won't comment. I did listen extensively to the B&W line. I didn't like any of their speakers until I heard the CDM line. These were nice. I don't know how these fit in your budget. Also they are disc...
B&K harsh sound
I picked up a new B&K ST2140 2 years ago to mate w/ the B&K PT3 preamp driving some old Polk Monitor 10 speakers. The amp was awful out of the box. I burned it in 24/7 for a week. Still awful, harsh, glaring, distorted, constrained soundst...
Dynaudio Audience 52 SE or B&W 705
Check out the B&W 805's. Used, they are in your price range. These are great small speakers. Open, fluid, detailed. Phenomenal. I've never heard the Dynaudio's, so I won't comment.
Question for Krell Kav-300il and 400xi owners?
I have a pair of B&W CDM9's. Now discontinued. These sound great (imo) paired to the Krell 400xi. B&W's like current and this unit provides plenty. Enjoy the amp, it's a great unit.
cd player and integrated amplifier for the B&W 9NT
It's amazing how well the CDM9's responded to an amp with more wattage and amperage per channel. I had an Odyssey prior to the Krell. They just sounded better. My dealer told me his customers don't usually pair the CDM9s' w/ the Krell equipment (d...
