Favorite integrated amp?
I just picked up the new Krell integrated, the KAV-400xi. Clear, detailed with a controlled and prodigious bass response. This is a huge step up from the separates I was using before. The only other integrated I have heard (still own) is the 25 ye...
What's a good AMP to drive my 803 N?
I've got the CDM9's. Not quite as nice as your 803's. I just slapped some Krell gear in front of the speakers. Sounds great! Clean, smooth, articulate and detailed w/ great controlled base. The Krell electronics have completely transformed my spea...
Amplifier Recommendation for B&W Nautilis 804
I agree w/ many posters above. Get a good amp and put the speakers on spikes. Try checking out the Soundcare superspikes. These added more base response to my B&W CDM9's then the Odyssey Stratos amp did (150 w/ch). Plus adding a decent OFC spe...
Help I have not bought equipment since mid 80's
Whoa! A lot of Krell bashers here. Krell seems to be a very polarizing brand, for some reason. I was in the same boat as you. I had 20+ year old stuff that I wanted to replace as well. I can point to some analagous buying experience that might hel...
Difference between Krell KAV-400xi and KAV-300IL
Howdy, I just picked up the KAV- 400ix to drive my B&W CDM9's. The "400" sounds great. I am very impressed with it so far. I didn't do a side-by-side with the "300", as the dealer didn't have both units on the shelf. I can tell you that I was ...
Krell amplifier with Hales speakers?
Howdy, I just picked up the new Krell integrated, the KAV- 400ix, to drive my B&W CDM9's. People consider these speakers to be bright. I don't completely agree w/ this assessment, but I digress. The KAV-400 sounds great. This is a big step up ...
Hours sitting around just listening to music?
It IS ultimately about the music. We are all trying to get the most sweet, dynamic, kickass system we can to reproduce the music we all love to listen too. We stretch our budgets to get the best system that we can afford to in our living rooms, de...
Great Vintage Amps-which one for you?
Frankly, the Hafler kit built amps were tough to beat. Mine lasted over 20 years in my system. I gave it to my music starved brother who's using it now. The differences between it and my brand new Odyssey were slight. Hammer
Upgrade Path: CDP or Preamp
Speaker wire suggestions anyone? I was considering this myself.
Upgrade Path: CDP or Preamp
Thanks everyone. I appreciate the repsonses and suggestions.
Upgrade Path: CDP or Preamp
CDP Shootout: Ok, after just over a week of burn in, here is my initial evaluation of the sonic changes in my system. The Rotel is definitely a subtle improvement, smoother treble and an extended bass response, better overall. This was more notica...
Upgrade Path: CDP or Preamp
Resolution (temporary?)Man, did I catch hell last night. I came home w/ a new Rotel RCD1072. My wife just glowered at me. Why did I pick the Rotel? It was available new in my area and not overly expensive (about 630 bucks). It is well built and go...
Upgrade Path: CDP or Preamp
Hi everyone. I am not dissatisfied w/ my TT. This is a keeper, sounds fine. Although, ergonomically, it's a little funky (it sits on only 3 feet and tends to tip when I lift up the dust cover). I'm really thinking along the lines of upgrading the ...
The best CD Player for the money
Ritteri, I'm curious. What great souce components have you had in your system? What lower cost units work well w/ some tweaking and what higher cost units would you recommend?I'm considering a CDP upgrade from an inexpensive Denon changer, and som...
Upgrade Path: CDP or Preamp
"I am listening". Good advice, people. Some contrary opinions. I need to weigh these. I AM enjoying parsing through the feedback, though. Don't know what I want to do, yet. I am leaning towards a new CDP and the Jolida intrigues me. I don't have t...
