Audiophile with a Golf bag
His system was a little shrill, bombastic, hazy, poorly designed and an eyesore to boot. But man was it engaging and dynamic. Never failed to "draw you in". One of the greats is gone.
Odyssey Stratos, McCormack DNA 225 or Bryston4BST?
I will offer a somewhat divergent opinion regarding the Stratos. I had one with the cap upgrade for a year driving B&W's. The amp was fine until pushed, somewhat warm and pleasant, always ran cool. At fairly loud levels however, the amp would ...
Cables for B&W and Rotel system.
Someone in a different thread just recommended AudioQuest cables for B&W. I've never heard these, myself. I'd be interested in someone else's response here.
Cables for B&W and Rotel system.
Stay away from Monster IC's. I've had bad experiences with them. What does your dealer use? Maybe try a few out there if you can. A warm sounding cable might help tame the metal tweeters on your speakers. I'd be open for some suggestions too.
What happened to Discwasher?
What about obtaining a replacement Discwasher brush? Are they worth replacing or should I just go with a different system? I am currently using a Decca carbon brush, Gruvglide and a very old Discwasher system. Some records refuse to play cleanly. ...
No Audiophiles in Hollywood
In "Sex and the City" the character Big plays an LP for Carrie on some TT. Don't know the brand. He had some tower/floorstanding type speakers in the backround. Also of an unknown brand.
Halo or Odyssey
Peter was using a better pre-amp than me. I'm not familiar w/ the Matrix 805's. I was using the B&W CDM9 speakers. That might explain the differences.
Halo or Odyssey
I've only heard the Halo's briefly in a store, so I can't comment. I did do an extended side by side comparison of the Odyssey Stratos(cap upgrade) vs. my trusty old Hafler DH200 in my system. Frankly, the Hafler bettered it. No real differences a...
headphone amp setup question
Hammy, I agree. Getting up to alter the volume from accross the room is a pain. Reminds me of my old B&W TV when I was a kid. I do it though, because headphone listening is an occassional late night affair for me. Are there any decent remote c...
headphone amp setup question
I have the same issue w/ my integrated amp. I decided to use the Tape outputs from the Krell to keep the integrated amp's volume separate from my headphone amp's volume. By doing this you can turn off the sound from your preamp and control the hea...
B&K PT3 or AVP-3090 to replace Linn Wakonda?
I used a PT3 II for a year or two. Overall it was a decent, warm sounding preamp. Very flexible w/ a great remote. Make in America, if that matters to you. The tuner section in it, to be blunt, sucks. I sold it for my Krell integrated. I like the ...
Personal amp evolution
Just upgraded this past winter to the new Krell KAV-400xi integrated amp. Best so far, but the Hafler is still going strong in my brother's system. Previously owned:DeWald integrated tube amp, about 30 WPC (fried) 1960-1978Nikko integrated ss amp,...
How much does your system retail for?
In total, under $7500.Wow. I am in awe of some of these set ups. Some of these systems reflect higher dollar figures than what my wife and I make in a year! And we're doin' pretty darn well, we're in the top 5% in average salaries. Congrats to all...
Question for Krell Kav-300il and 400xi owners?
I brought my amp over to my buddy's place recently who had just picked up the N804's. Man, did they sound great with the KAV-400. I want to upgrade now, unfortunately an ongoing house project is depleting my cash. Oh well.
budget remote preamp?
I had the B&K PT3 for a while. The preamp overall had a nice warm sound quality to it. Very versatile, lots of inputs and flexibility. Make it the USA, if you care. However, their tuner sections are poor.
