Where is the significant point of diminishing returns on hi-end turntable?
Yes, Whart, a REAL 1955 550RS Spyder, serial number 0053.  James Dean's car was 0055.  I got it as a complete but shabby car in 1986, about when values started to rise like a rocket, and I very stupidly sold it in around 1999, after having restore...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
I was sent a few pictures of a boxed TT-101 with the original bits and pieces yesterday, regarding the deer skin mat that Victor produced,it was shown in its original package included with the Table. So I can confirm that it was an item that was in...
Outer Platter Rings
I can't say I've heard any sonic benefits with the outside platter ring (whereas I do hear benefits with a centre record weight). The best I can say about the outer ring when used on a bare platter or metal mat, is that it didn't appear to degrade ...
Outer Platter Rings
Ok here's what I found with my TTW outer ring.....If you use ANY compressible platter mat on your turntable....it simply kills the dynamics. The 'air', transparency and 'life' of the recorded performance is simply suffocated. It does however flatte...

These OK, or did I mess it up ?Hahaha.....I don't think you messed up Crazy Bill 😎Whilst you may have paid slightly over the odds for the V15/III....it looks like the one you bought is in 'mint' condition which will allow you to compare the Shure ...

Hi Crazy Bill,FWIW....my two cents on your specific questions......I haven't heard the AT150MLX but I have the AT-150ANV (which incidentally beat the Atlas and 6 other cartridges in a Fremer readers' shoot-out) 😎I've heard only hesitation from tho...

Before you spend 'silly' money unnecessary Crazy Bill....can you maybe try something cheap and easy....?I have had dozens of high-compliance MM cartridges sound amazing in both FR64s and FR66S tonearms so please park that misunderstood audio 'myth...
Good Matching Cartridge For Micro Seiki 505
I bought a bigger after-market counterweight on eBay though...Oh yes...I forgot about this. The limiting factor with the MA-505 is that its counterweight is undersized for heavy cartridges. I bought an additional weight for just such events althou...
Good Matching Cartridge For Micro Seiki 505
There's no such thing as a universal pickup arm. An arm must be matched to a cartridge that's suitable to the arm's mass. You're welcome to live your audio life by this spurious maxim but I would have missed out on dozens of glorious arm/cartridge...
Good Matching Cartridge For Micro Seiki 505
Well I have the MA-505S and all the cartridges sampsa nominates are beauties....👍As he rightly says....is this the world's only tonearm that allows VTF, VTA and antiskate all on-the-fly?And just to make it perfect.....azimuth adjustment no matter ...

If I were you Crazy Bill....I'd be investing my funds in better cartridges.Much greater 'bang for buck' in that department IMHO and your arms are more than adequate to reap the benefits.
Cartridge "shoot-out" : Koetsu Jade v SPU v FR7 v London Reference.
Interesting read 👀I get to regularly listen to many cartridges with the same FR66s arm and I have the FR7f (modified with line-contact stylus), SPU Silver Meister, SPU AE-Gold, Decca London Reference and Lyra Atlas. The London Reference I agree is ...
Lyra Atlas experiences
I find with my Atlas, the greatest improvement is when I hit the 'mute' button......
"Vintage" high end gear vs new and upgrade path?
Go for it my friend.I'm on your side.....Now I'll tell you how to max out your analogue front end to give you better sound than most of the high-end crowd can even dream of.Don't get the Rega arm but take boxer's advice and get a good vintage arm ...
