Ground Cheater plug or.... I've been through all the components. The hum remains even if the ICs are disconnected from the amp. There are a lot of items in that room though: lamps, TV, ROKU box, DVD players, two seperate power supplies. The only thing I haven't tried is tak...
12BZ7/12AX7 vs. 5751 Sam, thank you for the backup. Clearly one of those salesmen who wonders why he never sells anything. I went to my favorite secret old TV store with thousands of tubes lying around looking for a pair of 5751s, but he didn't have two. However, he d...
12BZ7/12AX7 vs. 5751 As a retailer, I'm sure you'd think so.
Hum from both speakers...This is New Please read. Yeah, if you find an answer please post it. I've had the same problem with a Cary v12r for a couple of months now. Sent it in to Cary for what wound up being a very expensive service (cap upgrade) and they could not duplicate the hum AND it was st...
Table radio options for kids room Thanks for all the great answers. Apparently I've been told that - based on looks alone - I'm buying the Tivoli. Yes dear.
Table radio options for kids room Well, I make the assumption that she'll graduate to a flea watt 300b for her 4th birthday. Anyone else on the Tivoli? I will check out the Sangean though. Thanks!
Musical Fidelity NuVista M3 MC Phono gain If you open it up - all those little screws - towards the rear of the amplifier, kind of right-center, there is a very small, white dip switch that is labeled MM/MC. There are two switches on it, both of which have to be moved to MC. I had one tha...
SS preamp with Pass XA 60.5 amps Sorry, I think I meant the BP6. The BP26 does have balance inputs and outputs. Either way, both great units.
EL34 upgrade I'm using J&J EL34L's. I can't pretend to know if they're the best out there, but they were a big improvement over the stock chinese tubes in my amp. better extension and clarity. They're also relatively inexpensive at about $13-14 each.
SS preamp with Pass XA 60.5 amps Bryston's BP26 was well reviewed. Simple circuit with very few do-dads. Basically a selector, volume, and balance. If I recall it was in the $2500 - 3000 range. No blalanced ins or outs, if that's important to you.
How do you send an internet stream into a hi fi? I use a Musical Fidelity V-Link which is cheap (
Cary v12 vs. Vac 80/80 vs. Music Reference RM-9 I can't speak to the other two, but I have a Cary V12R driving a pair of Spendors and it sounds very nice. Deep and wide soundstage, really good instrument timbers - that sweet EL34 midrange everyone seems to love - and no harshness in the treble....
Noise & Hum Rating We actually did to tests. The first was on a B&K tube tester, set at a sensitivity of 53 - which was the spec for the machine for an EL34. All of the tubes tested out between 95 and 110, with two of them a little low at 85. Then we did a sine ...
Serious Classical Labels These are great suggestions. This would be all digital. I'm trying to make sense of unfamiliar labels through Arkiv Music. Fantastic selection, but little information about the labels. Trying to pick cds with consistently high production values, a...
Van Halen, baby I debated whether go see this tour, but the first concert I ever went to was VH at Madison Square Garden on the 1984 tour. It was a fantastic show, and in the end I decided that's how I'd prefer to remember them. Now it's just a nostalgia act. |
