Do Cables Wear Out?
Guidocorona -- It's such a relief see that we speak the same language!
Do Cables Wear Out?
Guidocorona -- not so. It has been proven lately (see Holbein, & Mesmer in American Scientific, issue 69, Feb 31st 2009) that IC and CLC only impact air molecules, at quantum level. On the other hand, OIL powered plants (the majority) inject pa...
Why so much music for sale?
Music is antique art. Like all art it is a luxury and its resale value goes up. Hi end equipment, OTOH, is a necessity. So are Porsches & Mercedes. So, in these dire times, people have to sell their music to finance these bare necessities...
What will beat ear 834p by a margin
Pedrillo sez: (a phono)... is about synergy and tasteI don't think so (well, taste, maybe). A phono has to equalise and strongly amplify a small signal with as little loss as possible, as wide-bandwidth as possible and in as linear a manner as pos...
Powered woofers
Not being sure what specific info you'd like, here are random thoughts fm using such configs, commercial and diy**Generally speaking: F-Response and energy and power response are better than their fully passive counterparts (OK, design permitting ...
BIX TT Won't Hold Speed - Bearing Lube?
Why don;t you try watchmakers' lube. It doesn;t leave residue. If lube's the culprit (sounds like it)
How important--matched tweeters on Snell JII
You just test them (T/S). Tweets are often quite similar.
What will beat ear 834p by a margin
Of the ones listed, the few I know do better. I don't know the BAT, Cary, Herron, Rowland, Artemis. The Linto is borderline.BUT:-You can also modd yr EAR if you feel like it (Thorsten Loesch has excellent suggestions)-The EAR is reasonably priced.
CAT or VAC for Shahinian Obelsik
The CAt has hi bias (it's class partly/mostly?). It should be able to drive most modern speakers (i.e. +88 db spl)perfectly well. That said, I don't know the vac or the new obelisks (if any different). A pair of old ones sounded fine driven by a j...
How important--matched tweeters on Snell JII
Of course you have to match the tweets -- to a reasonable degree at least. Just ask the vendor to do it -- it;s not rocket science:)
XLR or single ended cables and why?
Tvad sez:however XLR should prove quieter on very long runs or in set-ups where many cords come in contact with each other. Exactly. Plus the common mode rejection (i.e. "noise" that is common to both sides of the channel is cancelled out). Often ...
Is balanced necessarily better?
There are some extremely high quality RCA connectors available just as there are very poor balanced connectors. As always YMMV No, no Audiofeil. I wasn't relating to mileage or to "sound" -- rather, to the fact that xlr clicks on and that rca are ...
What phono preamps are balanced
Among those I know -- Asr, Klyne, clearaudio, rowland are. But really Pedrillo, why don't you just check these peoples' web-sites?? Cheers
LSA speakers?
OK, right. Didn't know the BBC LS is the dk owner. Thanks.
LSA speakers?
Is there confusion? LS3-5a is the code name of a '60s BBC spkr design for monitoring inside recording vans.LSA is a brand name used by "dk designs". They make amps and spkrs (asaik).
