Best One Country System?
Charles -- Sony is japanese. But, methinks there are SO many choices for a TOP US system that filtering it down to ONE is very tricky, to say the least. For example, alternative TT could be the big Rockport or TNT;Riaa filter / pre could be Vendett...
Electrical properties of cables
A side issue: I've always liked using neutriks. They're very handy and reliable. Many, however, have touted the Eichmann connectors which are not horribly expensive and user friendly.

Why don;t you just resolder the cable -- rather than change it, etc. It's just 8 solder points & you'll probably spot the loose one by looking (or measuring).
Favorite Tube Speaker Match
Bartok -- Bio means, changing drivers: from one that has a cheaper ceramic magnet to one with a neodym. There are drive units with identical mechanical parts -- but different material magnets (Supravox for example).Alnico and neodymium can offer mu...
Anyone familiar with the Manger driver?
My Manger project utilize 2 dual voice coil Scan speak 8" Kevlar (100watts per driver perside) and twin tower 2x15" JBL woofers (total of 4). Now that's what I'd call refreshingly serious stuff!!I assume the Scan was a 8546 - but w/ dual VC -- fil...

Do measure the Benchmark. It's strange tho that the attenuation follows the cable (as you note in yr 1st post) in some instances and the benchmark output in others.Overall it looks like a bad connection s/where UNLESS there's s/thing wrong in the ...
Anyone familiar with the Manger driver?
D_edwards, can you describe your Manger application -- the speaker part, the dsp part is obvious? BTW, that 10' paper scan is not a bad driver in & of itself. What did you use?Cheers

for some applications it works well (small room, jazz, simple vocals, etc.) It's just that for a low power amp, you end up running at max power alot and possibly clipping which takes you into a higher distortion range on the amp.COuldn't agree mor...
VSA VR4 SR or JR as a match to my system and room
Canada has a number of good speaker manufacturers -- esp given the testing facilities available. Presumably, Canadian products will be easy to access (ditto with customer service).Your room is big and can accomodate most, if not all, commercial sp...

Hi Bio: nope, the speakers were a mess The tubes were driving a tractrix horn loaded lowther ex4. 120 Hz horn. Then I had to use a suitable bass driver capable of playing the game (that was fine, a Supravox 400 did the trick). Then, not surprising...
Tweeter quest
Measure the existing audax. 4kHz isn't a bad xover point; I would choose the cheapest (i.e. Chinese) true ribbon that has the right nominal sensitivity (i.e. ~equivalent to the audax -- or higher). Can you find out the hi pass particulars and if th...

For SET amps, I think you haveto consider the amp and speaker as one unit. Very nicely put! Indeed, in the old times, the speaker came with its amp -- together. Remember those old radiogrammes (or whatever they were called) and radios? The 1610 is ...
Tweeter quest
Nick, forget it -- unless pmc themselves help you out with indispensable info on their speaker "voicing", the crossover schematics and the characteristics of the tweet you're now using. In order to replace the tweet with a ribbon you need to mate i...
Very short speaker cable length recommended?
Even with interconnects it seems Half meter might be worse sounding than 1 meter standard in some scenarios as wellIt has to do with the electrical properties of the cable at the specific length as it couples with/influences (i.e. enters the circu...
DIY Interconnects review
Thank you Sean. I still have to get down to getting a bridge of sorts to measure these JD I/Cs I made -- unless I figure an amateur way of measuring them connected?Cheers
