Is Digital actually better than Analog?
...what exactly is needed to make a system sound liveA reasonable simulation would be very low noise floor & very high dynamics......but, OTOH, I don't expect a system to sound like live music. Live music would not be my reference (as it isn't...
passive preamp matching
No, you're not. According to thisreport by J Atkinson at Stereophile, the TLC-1 you're considering should do OK with yr 33,2k amp -- if a bit uncertain at very low volumes. You may want to try it at low volume level (say 8-9 o' clock). Again, howev...
Anyone familiar with the Manger driver?
Jack--your question is a bit incomprehensible. IF I get the gist: Mangers in a p.a. application, I'd say forget it. You don't have the the spl capacity in the first place.
Is Digital actually better than Analog?
Guido notes: In some sense, the most musically satisfying reproduction system is hyperrealistic, rather than simply realistic. That is a marvellous way of putting it (IMO, YMMV, etc, all politically correct injunctions). I would add that the flavou...
Do I need seperate circuts for Audio and TV
Since you;re at it, try to keep yr digital stuff separate from the analogue stuff, if you can. The analogue will invariably pick up noise and rejecting that noise is a pain.
Questions Re: Time & Phase Alignment
(Speakers which are) full freq-response, multidriver, dynamic, and time and phase-alignedThat's a tall order, my friend.I strongly recommend you forget it: multidriver, & phase + time aligned don't go together. You will laways have phase matte...
cable dielectric cause of artificial sound
please show me the article or data you have. Perhaps I am missing somethingWhy on earth do you need an article or "data" or any other, further erudition? You might measure it, if you wish -- but better still, don't bother:) What may usually happen...
cable dielectric cause of artificial sound
All this yak about characteristic impedance, load matching, and dielectric loss tangents (aka dissipation factor) applied to cable in the audio band is akin to applying special relativity when describing the point at which two cars will intersect ...
Questions Re: Time & Phase Alignment
To supplant, perhaps, the Thiel info:1)& 2) (Time alignment): in practical terms, the acoustic centres of the drivers (i.e. where sound originates) are aligned in the vertical plane. As tweets are typically more shallow than, say, woofers, the...
Anti-cables alternatives
Subdued: I'm using wide tape along the length of the cable, keeping the conductors ~2" apart along the way. COnductors are, of course, on the sticky side of the tape. Please note that this creates some capacitance and, being unshielded, can pick up...
Is Digital actually better than Analog?
To further add to this erudite exchnage {:)}:but nevertheless progress (if you can call it that) is relentless.More like change, isn't it, in this particular case.Or, if we wish to use the word as a verb, we may say: "as time progresses" certain p...
Suggestions for adjustable gain CD player
Your Ayre is a good product, as many have noted. Its preamp stage is good ASAI can tell. So, my suggestion is, keep the Ayre for now and consider a ladder volume control (like a placette, above) or a transformer volume control (like Bent? I think)...
The best speaker you ever heard?
Dracule -- a rule of the thumb: when driving TWO spkrs together inside a venue and feeding IDENTICAL signals, you get +6dB over the rated sensitivity of each spkr measured individually. But in the Synergies case, the spec is for music spl -- i.e. ...

Detlof, old chap, lets keep the psa droppin' and the Unimog truckin'! Cheers
Wires for a Jolida JD 1000RC and Selah Audio SA-1
Dear Detlof, how nice to see you in these virtual shores again! Onto the technical subject -- actually, I have little to contrubute and was more joyed to see you writing again:)!Anyway, the Goertz sounds like a good idea but it *may* need a protec...
