Explain it to me like im 4 please? dedicated line
"Also, im looking at running my 3 Transparent Super Bi-cables in wall and thru 2.5 inch plastic conduit, will this sonically disturb anything?"It shouldn't (disturb anything, that is). If anything, it might improve things as the wire is less vulne...
Are my Virgos efficient enough?
John:I meant the KR (sorry for the confusion). BTW, Triangle makes more sensitive speakers that have some "similar" sound qualities to the Virgo. The design is completely different (minimal x-over, wide-range drivers used, etc), but the imaging, t...
Will I notice improvement with crossover mods?
Mundorf makes excellent components. You will hear the generic "sound" of your speaker design much better now, and clarity should be improved. Allow the coils some (break-in) time before passing judgement, however.
Stupendous or dim-witted?
You could do it, but you'd have to match the input sensititvity of the two amps --- otherwise one part of the speaker will play louder than the other.More to the point, passive bi-amping has never done it for me: too much trouble, too expensive, m...
JM Lab Mezzo or Red Rose classic??
Ditto, above, Mezzo Utopia. With all due respect for the R-ROse product, the Utopia is in another league. (That's my opinion, of course). BTW, it's more a matter of design & components' quality than the country of manufacture (granted, though,...
Are my Virgos efficient enough?
They *do* play. I've listened to Virgo driven by yr amps. As you no doubt already know, the amps sound exquisite. The combo just won't go very loud (i.e. before the amps start clipping) if your room is large.If/when you start looking other speaker...
Can we have an "Ask Sean" catagory?
Sean's contribution is very significant. About time we provided something in return.I submit that Sean, like all respectable Irishmen, needs a drink & a project. I expect that too much of the latter probably robs him of the former:) -- unfortu...
passive preamp sub output?
Hmmm -- what's the point of the active x-over since Balthus does NOT have a pre-amp OUTPUT (i.e. you can't drive the active x-over with the power amp's output..)Balthus: if I understand correctly, you want to drive 2.1 channels from the Acurus?? I...
Limits?
For me it's primarily finance that has slowed down buying. A secondary consideration is that in many classical works, I have my "definitive" performances. Not to say I wouldn't listen to new recordings with new artists: but that brigns me back to ...
Review: Thorens TD-185 Turntable
Well... we've a long way since the TD 160! Interesting review.
Rel vs. Vandersteen vs Audio Physic subwoofers
Because they produce spls with more ease. It's not only the extension that counts, but also the (dba) level where the device maxes out (& distorts or, worse, develops a problem). Cheers
One big subwoofer or two weaker subwoofers?
Sean, don't you think that TWO 15"ers in stereo (i.e. one per channel) would do the trick for yr Dad? - You would still have definition (not the single-note pulsating muddiness)- There would be better spl so, bass will be more perceptibleCheers
One big subwoofer or two weaker subwoofers?
Eldatford: interesting! But if your drivers are IN the wall, why have you sealed them?? Why not IB? Or am I missing s/thing?BTW, is that 6 low frequency drivers per channel - or is it ONE s/woof (with 6 drivers)?Pls excuse my confusion.
Rel vs. Vandersteen vs Audio Physic subwoofers
I like all three constructors (not helpful, I know). For MUSIC alone, I have a slight preference for the Luna, ONLY in stereo (i.e., two Lunas). This MAY be due to the fact that the Luna was allegedly voiced using jazz & classical -- i.e. repr...
Review: Emm Labs DCC2 DA converter
Well... "Drool" seems indicated. Geez, T, I really can't think of something intelligent to say -- as in, "dramatically improve yr system with these three easy moves". Other than you can probably do multichannel by adding a processor to the DCC2, c...
