Speaker design myths revealed
Wow, Fiddler. I expect you're trying out Phy's recommended open baffle with the piano hinges on the side flaps... Planning to use a tweet???
Smelly softening woofer and midranges
Would you consider unscrewing one of the smelly drivers? If yes, do so, DON'T disconnect it and place it on a stool (or any support). Drive the spkrs and check if the driver is heating up.It sounds like you're overheating the voice coil -- but why...
42 drivers, anybody heard this ?
Haven't heard it but from the description it's a dsp controlled unit that relies on reflected sound to simulate the surrounds. The controller obviously introduces a predetermined amount of delay to some of the drive units when in multichannel mode...

Fiddler, what drivers are you using /filter configuration (if any)?
hilary hahn..violinist
I listened to H.Hahn's Beethoven and, despite the technical prowess, I was uninspired by the musical result. Of course, this is a concerto played by so many so well (Oistrakh, Heifetz, Taschner, Hubermann, etc) that comparisons may be insidious.
What's wrong with classical music on vinyl?
I have to echo Johnnantais here: you're mistracking, and it's probably a matter of overhang (considering you've checked the other alignments). And as Logenn notes, we buy classical usually based on the performance, not the weight of the vinyl... S...
Ultimate challenge biggest bang speaker
Tom (Twl) notes: ...(They) don't have a spec for "natural tone" or "open, transparent sound", or "that musically right sound"Hmmm. Maybe. BUT don't tell tale indications abound? Take yr spkrs for example:The Lowthers' spec ~21000 Gauss magnetic fi...
What about a product can irritate you?
Practicality in design: one pre I used, had the two pre OUTputs on EITHER side of "pro in", at the back of the unit, the unit being large and deep of course (so, no visibility from front). So, 9/10 when I changed IC, one of the amps was mute OR on...
Rotel, Odyssey, or Classe with N805's
The Stratos "sound" would be on the warm side of neutral, the Classe (note however: judging by their bigger models) on the slightly colder side of neutral. The Stratos will try to favour midbass/bass energy, the Classe treble energy.Good luck!
Rappaport
If not a model1 amp, any medium wattage deep class A solid state, with a reasonable input impedance (+10kOhm). Some of the old electrocompaniets, old mark levs (the 25W? ones), are possible candidates TRY a few, the pre1 is easy to carry along to ...
Why do intelligent people deny audio differences?
people who don't think they are susceptible to (...)influences are arguably the most likely to be susceptible. That's why scientists (...) perform(...) double-blind testsMaybe. Scientists also perform such tests to gauge how PERCEPTIVE people are....
MG-1 Air Bearing Tonearm? Anyone experience it?
Note that you need to have a pump to operate it -- or purchase one extra...
Blind Power Cord Test & results
In a very interesting post above, Donbellphd notes:Is this thread about auditory perception or religion? I get the impression it's about religion... (...) Somewhere in-between, I'd say, and closer to religion: music is an emotional experience and ...
Goodmans Triaxiom 212c scratchy sound
ditto, above. If so, it's not the easiest job and thereby relatively costly.
AA capitole mk2 VS. Wadia 861
Inpieces: judging by the way you like yr music ("passionate"), I thoroughly recommend you try to listen to the following cdp's (one box):*Lindemann 8?? mentioned above*Symphonic Line (whichever model EXCEPT the cheapest)HOWEVER, regarding dynamics...
