Should I buy a new cd player or DAC or both or neither? @audioengr Agreee with your Sony rec. Do you also have any positive experience running the Sony through a better DAC? Thanks for any ideas along these lines. Love the Sony interface but hoping to improve sound if possible.
Please recommend a McIntosh preamp C2300 preamp (and I imagine the C23xx newer models) works very nicely with my MC352. Stock tubes are OK, but I upgraded to Gold Lion with positive results. MC phono section is solid on the C2300, and I'm another tone-control user because of my as...
How much HD storage for transferring vinyl? A Sony USB turntable will not deliver best sound for your archive, and yes the cartridge (and the entire analog playback system) will make a major difference.
Is the PS Audio PerfectWave P10 Power Plant worth it? I run an entire system through a P10, including the powered subwoofers in my Vandersteen 5A's and a large stereo amp. Seems to provide an extra level of detail and resolution, or blacker background as someone else has noted. You can get a P10 eas...
My jazz collection told me to get a *real* system @jazztherapist Lot of great suggestions here, but as I think more about your situation it strikes me that you're kind of flying blind (listening blind?) on this project. You say that you'd like to move up to a better/more resolving system, but it'...
My jazz collection told me to get a *real* system Easier to discuss and advise if you go ahead a post a system, so we can see where you're at right now.Think also about a 10-20 year budget, so that your long term goals are in view.If it were me in the shoes you seem to be wearing, and only short ...

Dynavector XX2 MKII? Your thoughts of it? Offer $200 for the cartridge. That'd be a fair deal, in my opinion, given the long hours, no warranty, sketchy story, etc.Good luck.
PHONO PREAMP I've been enjoying the ModWright PH-150 Reference Phono for the past year. It's a very flexible MM/MC, 2-input, RCA or XLR tube phono stage that fits in your price range (MSRP $8K). Sounds great IMO with the stock tubes, although others have tube...
power for mc452 and c2600 Using McIntosh MC352 amplifier + C2300 preamplifier (similar to your gear), I tried several things in this order. Each step improved the sound, in my opinion:1. Richard Gray 400 power conditioner.2. Dedicated 20 amp lines (2) + PS Audio outlets.3...
Thinking about buying an Lp12, Lingo table. $3K for a 20 year old Linn? How about a newish VPI for a lot less and forget the LP12 headaches?
mc452 vs 601 vs. pair mc275 for classical music My system might give you a few ideas. The Mac electronics I've got are similar to the ones you are looking at. Glad to answer specific questions if you have any.I am very pleased with the Vandersteen 5A speakers in this system.
what country has the worst graders of "collector" rock records Thanks (not!) for that bummer of a post! Maybe more positive thinking will move things in the right direction. Why paint with such a broad and negative brush? Most eBay dealers, regardless of geography, with decent feedback do a fairly solid job ...
New Release CD Players $1000 - $1500 @rsfphil Very observant. I'm well aware of what the Sony does. Maybe keep an open mind on this subject? That was the reason for my suggestion to the original poster. The Sony will play everything on a CD, except one does not need to handle the...
New Release CD Players $1000 - $1500 In that price range, I picked the Sony HAP-Z1ES high resolution player/DAC. Loaded all my CDs onto its hard drive. No looking back to digital physical media. Sony iPad/iPhone app for album/song selection. Really liking this and highly recommended. |
