Manley Steelhead vs others. ModWright PH-150 Reference Phono is an option to consider. Tubes but very quiet. I like that it has front panel controls like the Steelhead, although it’s more of a pure phono pre, whereas the Manley can serve as a full pre if I recall correctly. ...
Not too knowledgeable and a cartridge/ phono amp recommendation is desired Your system(s) is not as simple as you've indicated. Recommend you set aside the surround system for movies only. Two channel is where it's at for vinyl playback. That leaves you with the Outlaw receiver and two turntables: a vintage Franken-Thore...
Phono stage with 3 inputs Why not go for a stand-alone phono stage + full-featured preamp? For example, I use a McIntosh C2300 pre that has both mm and mc. Then I run a Modwright phono stage into one of the C2300 aux inputs. The Modwright has both mm and mc inputs. This...
I need some turntable guidance preamp- Mac C2300 tube and has built in phonoKrell MCX 350 monos and PBN Audio KAS speakersMac MC275 tube amp and Klipschorn speakers with Volti upgradesIt's very hard to believe you have the system(s) listed above, but you don't have basic answe...
Help me build a $2,500 system Think about your long term goals. Consider how much of a hurry you need to be in. Recall the story of Mr. Tortoise and Mr. Hare. If you want to move up the food chain, I'd recommend spending the whole $2500 on good electronics. For that kind o...
Thoughts on a Potential New Rig I like your system ideas, and you should be well under $4K budget, right? Vintage Technics ($1000 maybe less), McIntosh MA6200 integrated about $1500, then presumably $500 or so for the Silverlines or other vintage monitors. Check out my vintage...
Do you guys like Adele's music? The studio albums seem harsh and compressed, but Adele has powerful talent IMO. Check out her live “Someone Like You” on NPR Tiny Desk:https://youtu.be/XfzpYcwiUrA
$1500 system for a friend If the friend has CDs, he has a CD player, and that CD player will be fine. If no CD player, then CDs can be stored in the attic. Then: *Outlaw RR2160 Receiver ($800)*Elac bookshelf speakers ($200) connected with whatever lamp cord, etc.*Audioengin...
Mcintosh Meter color help, it's Is it faded, not blue? Is it faded? Check with Audio Classics. They may have an LED bulb upgrade kit for your amplifier. Those + translucent "blue" inserts are what provide the color for McIntosh meters.
WAF Speaker suggestions Bring your wife with you to Axpona or similar show. Since you’d like her to pick, just let her pick the speakers, but not without hearing and seeing some alternatives.
Turntable isolation for bedroom floor First floor? Basement accessible? Or upper floor? If it's an upper floor, a wall mounted turntable is a possibility. For first floor with basement/crawl space access, you could put a jack(s) under the floor for support.
Help with picking new integrated for under 3k If, like me, you're a "slowly upgrading" type person, why not consider a substantially upgraded amplifier to go with your Cambridge pre? You mention McIntosh integrated, but if you're going to keep on upgrading, why stop there? Have a look at, s...
Budget cartridge for SOTA Moonbeam TT. Another vote for Nagaoka MP-110 as a budget cartridge. I use it in my office/vintage system and like it better than the Ortofon 2M Red.
5A Vandersteen I’ve been running the 5A’s for a few years, and they are keepers. Definitely would go to Vandy 7’s if finances allow one day, although I’d have to go second hand, almost certainly, and it’s hard to imagine anyone upgrading from them. Might be alo... |
