Looking for comparisons between CD transports
If your transport sounds better than streaming it is the fault of the streamer.    Skipping around with streaming generally means a lack of musicality in your system somewhere… typically lack of mid-range bloom and PRaT. My system more than once ...
I Sold my CD Player!!! Streaming sounds so incredible!!!
Yes, advances over the last ten years have completely eroded the advantage of vinyl or physical media based digital. With high resolution low cost streaming like Qobuz the unbelievable restrictions of owning physical media have been laid bare. Fo...
Six DAC Comparison
@soix  +1 Also, for lower level DACs part choices are made on just choosing appropriate parts or on cost not sound. Also, it takes a lot of experience to just figure out the “sound” of different capacitors and resistors and where they are put in ...

$8k for speakers - new or used
Hmm, detail punch and bass… B&W’s strong suite.
Adding tube sound to my SS system
I found the Yggdrasil to sound very good for the money but nowhere as good as a good quality $5K or higher DAC… it’s treble is unrefined and overall the sound is thin. But, it’s good for a budget DAC.
Recommendations for 20 amp electrical outlets
👍😊
Is "detailed" audiophile code for too much treble?
Wow, that is quite a range of answers. I would say more often than not a “highly detailed” “whatever” relies an excess of treble and often a dearth of midrange to highlight details. Many of these are major high end brands. But definitely not alwa...
Recommendations for 20 amp electrical outlets
OP,   Consider just installing direct lines with hospital grade outlets at first. You’ll get the boost in sound quality. Then a few years down the line when everything is optimal, swap out one of the hospitals for a Furutech. You will be able to...
Speakers better without subwoofers? Crossover and synchronization issues? What do you do
The reason bass drivers have gotten smaller is they are much more capable (longer throw) and faster (less overhang). Huge drives have inertia and are not nearly as articulate. Lots of folks have subwoofers… I suspect very often they are not adding...
Adding tube sound to my SS system
I have migrated slowly over the decades to all tubes. Seduced one component at a time. I now have all Audio Research equipment. I find Luxman to be overly trebly with a bit of a bass kick and very lean midrange. The missing midrange takes away the...
what cable should I buy for my system?
I would go with Cardas at the price level of about 10% of your average component costs. Sounds like you want to be careful not to get cables that are too “hot” of it’s honing to get fatiguing. Cardas will add refinement. Alternatively, try DHLabs ...
Best Sounding L/R Speakers for DVD/BD Movie Sound? > $4K/pair
I’m not really sure of the question. Yes, really old movies do not have not very good sounding sound tracks. The restoration on North by Northwest was phenomenal, both video and audio, the reason it sounds good.   Our home theater has B&W 80...
Small speaker advice
If you like the sound of Wilson, then that sounds perfect for your venue. Some of the very best sound I have ever heard was in a tiny room. The trick is to have speakers of appropriate size and really warm natural sounding electronics. There is li...
