Solid State Phono Stages OP, Yes, the REF 3 is expensive. Fyi. I used to own a PH8… which I thought was an incredibly good deal for the money. I also owned a PH2, pH2Se, PH3, PH3SE, No trying to make you change your mind… just sharing my observations.
Does Anyone Buy Schiit for the Sake of Schiit? @dancarlson10 That is an exceptional reaction. I sure do not have a technical answer to why your unit must have been defective, but it must have been. I have owned a dozen DACs an auditioned more, including an iteration of a Dragon… and the B...
Solid State Phono Stages @ozzy62 Interesting. What did you have? What do you have now. What does your solid state do that your tube did not?
Solid State Phono Stages ”And the old Audio Research PH2 has a fair amount of hiss”… That was released in 1992… thirty years ago. My ARC PH8 had no hiss as does my REF 3.
Does Anyone Buy Schiit for the Sake of Schiit? When Schiit came on the scene I definitely put my foot down. I would never even consider the company because of the name. Then a couple years ago a friend of mine needed a budget DAC. I researched the heck out of it… and could not get out of the ...
Solid State Phono Stages I hope you will report back as to what you do and find. My journey has been in the opposite direction… I found Audio Research for phono stages decades ago and once I got to ARC tube phonostages… there was no going back… I now own a ARC Reference 3...
300B int+headphone amp or kt88/el34 I’ll try and be helpful. My main system is powered by KT150s and my headphone system by 300B. I have two separate systems because they have different purposes and seldom will a tap on a integrated be up to the same standard as the speaker outputs....
DAC Merry Go 'Round- why I stopped at Weiss Excellent comparison. Thank you. Real value added.
Why do I need power management if I have a great power cord? @rtorchia Your system? It would be good if put photos of your system on line under your user ID. Your experience? What components and power components have you tested?
Cassette decks. How good can it get? Yes, I am sure they probably fail in the frequency extremes.. but my LX-5 was one of the most influential pieces of equipment I have ever owned. It mastered some of the most important moments of my life… although, I guess, it does,’t hold a candle...
System bottleneck? Op… “What preamp and speakers would be a substantial upgrade to your ears?”. My ears are highly influenced by the last fifty years pursuing high end audio. At first influenced by the ethereal sound of planar speakers… while trying to maintain ...
Power Cable Break In - Such a Change! Cool. Great post. Yes, it may sound ridiculous but break-in is very real and can make a big difference.
What about the floor? I would use wall to wall… well not shag… how old is it… 70’s? My listening area is incredible… see my user ID… asymmetrical large room, carpeting, think wall hangings. Sound stage goes many feet into the wall and on sides if speakers.
Low Level Listening and Distortion @mglik 👍. it was fun!
System bottleneck? OP, First of all… it is a completely reasonable question to ask. I learned 40 or 50 years ago that there is no end to how much better a system can sound… ok… to well over a million dollars. If you carefully choose what you purchase, double the... |
