Are there speakers that disappear regardless of the recording?
If you want disappearance in locations other than the sweet spot, then you’ll have to look to Omni…. Ohm Walsh… Omni or as you mention MBL… Maggie’s aren’t in this category. I have never been a Ohm fan… but my partner had a pair when we met, she l...
Power Distribution
Cardas Nautilus is a good quality one.. I recently compared the Nautilus with my old but high quality power conditioner… within a minute put back the power conditioner. This is not a knock against the power strip. Sometimes power conditioning is n...
SS Substitute for Tube Integrated?
I’m sorry, I don’t understand the issue. If you own a great integrated ( I own one also). What is the problem. After 50 years in audio, I assure you I am not going back to solid state… the musicality of well designed tube equipment is amazing. So,...
Favorite Preamps without phono section
Audio Research, Audio Research, Audio Research… oh, to be fair, also, Conrad Johnson, Cary, and VAC. I guess Luxman should be considered as well.
audio speak and the current terms, I am a bit dated...your thoughts/experience
I don’t pay attention to that stuff. I want to hear standard audiophile terminology coming from reputable high end professional reviewers like The Absolute Sound, Stereophile, or HiFi+. The terminology is defined in The Complete Guide to High End ...
looking to match a new speaker to ARC REF75se
The standard match would be Sonus Faber. I have all Audio Research components and Sonus Faber speakers… my third set of Sonus… upgrading twice. They are a great match if you want highly musical, natural, detailed, good sound staging.    Reach as ...
Turntable - The Next Step
I have been into high end audio for 50 years, turntables at the beginning were the only source. Looking at your system I would say your weakest link likely to be your preamp/phono stage. These two components are critical in getting the most out of...
Recommended integrated amplifier for upgrade
I recommend Audio Reseach… Luxman is also a good consideration. Unless, you only listen to rock I wouldn’t think of Mac. There are two “known pairings” with SF, Audio Research and MAC. I have now owned three pair of Sonus Faber: Cremona, Olympica...
Why still USB 2.0?
The high end audio industry is slow moving because it requires a lot of time and research with materials and designs to release something of superior sound. This takes time.
Intriguing inquiry, are floor-stand speakers always better than active speakers?
@phusis    Yes, as in all things there are advantages and disadvantages in different system designs. It is great to discuss different approaches to system design. Most audiophiles are very cautious when trying a new paradigm. I have never had th...
New speaker cables
@voodoolounge   Yes. Over my time my audio library has been repeatedly refreshed and revealed more and more upon each upgrade. The most amazing was stuff I listened to when really young… never knew the words, then the instruments separated and ...
Turn it up...?
Typically the noice in power is much lower at night… so, the distortion and high frequency noise is lower. That can sound like lower volume… blacker background.
New speaker cables
Congradulations!  Yes, they matter… the beginning of creating a system that performs beyond just the components.
Intriguing inquiry, are floor-stand speakers always better than active speakers?
There is an economic aspect of active speakers that has a big impact on the market. In general, creating the best system possible at say $25K, $50K, or $200K… typically speakers would be the most expensive investment. You start adding more functio...
