Mark Levinson & Others
Mark Levinson is a very highly regarded brand among some audio folk. I have never liked the brand. To me it is highly accurate, dynamic but unmusical. It removes the music… might be good for studios.   I want dynamic, detailed and highlu]y music...
Power Cable Suggestions - Budget
What components do you have? That will make a difference. Is it a preamp or surround processor… big difference.
Recommended Pre-Amps under 1k?
I think you picked it: Schiit Freya+. Outstanding value for the money.
External phono stage for Luxman 509x
I recommend as good a Audio Research phono stage as you can afford. They are world class. I futzed around with other brands and was very disappointed for over ten years, then I found ARC, the last 40 years I have had ARC. Natural, detailed and mus...
Best place to use better xlr cable
As early in the audio chain is most probable… but, like everything in audio… you have to try it. ‘Questions you might ask, that would suggest a different place to start: are all of you components internally balanced? If not that would suggest you...
Thoughts and Advice regarding Sonus Faber speakers
After many years of planar speakers an my best friend having Thiels I switched to Sonus Faber: first Cremona, then Olympica 3, then Amati Traditional. I also have had some ARC equipment, now all is ARC.   I think your thinking is on point for wh...
Improving my Preamp
Audio Research Reference 6. I have owned previous lower en ARC preamps, Reference 5SE (6 years)… and for the last couple years Reference 6SE. I can’t recommend it too much. For nearly forty years I paired these with Pass solid state amps. My jour...
Lifespan of components?
I suspect typically 35 to 50 years or more , based on my experience… not much. But we all know capacitor performance falls after some time… probably less than twenty years. Then there is better performance in new stuff. Typically even in amps ten ...
The hunt is over
Congratulations, beautiful. … just in the nick of time it appears, looks like you running out of room. I reach happy plateaus, I am one past my end game system.
Smart buying buying a preamp with tubes anot avail except as made by preamp manuf?
No way I would ever buy into that. Companies come and go… tubes require replacement.
Starting over
@lou_setriodes    +1
Do we really know what "Live" music sounds like?
Going to electrified concerts, like rock concerts, makes you better able to make judgements on equipment when playing recordings of live concerts, but not studio albums.
A different world
@audiom3   Wow, really sorry to hear all the work it took. I got a couple $69 wall wart repeaters for my two systems and and got there. I did put in a EtherRegen on my main system, but it made only a tiny improvement.
Sound
I can’t say I like tweaking things, I would be more happy to plunk things down and enjoy. But I long ago learned that will not get great sound. I will say I now, once I get to a new higher plateau of performance and am very happy to stay there for...
Making speakers sound tonally similar with an equalizer
If you are asking the question of high fidelity consumer equipment… no. Equalization always has negative impacts on sound… so while you might make a few gross changes… you are going to lose fidelity by putting a bunch of pots or digitally manipula...
