The past meets the future
@ohlala   Good question. I fortunately have an Audio Research Ref DAC and Audio Research Phono stage as well as Preamp and amp. I carefully chose my cartridge to match my taste. The result has been fantastic in both ends have exactly the same c...
most beautiful (looking) speakers
@prismdissonant    Beautiful woodwork and finish. The popsicle like stands are a bit strange.
Upgrading from Primaluna
@j-wall While I am a Audio Research fan, if I were you I would definitely go for the Allnic L7000. Looks like a great preamp. I read a couple reviews (I’m good at reading reviews and getting out what was intended). I would be shocked if the pream...
Audio Research REF 80S Reviews/Comparisons
@fsonicsmith    Valuable input. Thanks.
Recommendation all-rounded speaker (small room)
Op, thanks for identifying your equipment. Given what you have and want… nothing jumps out from my experience.
Inexpensive Good Vintage Turntables?
Having been a long term AR table owned and then a VPI and now Linn owner… the VPI and Linn  are in completely different leagues.
Recommendation all-rounded speaker (small room)
What kind of music do you listen to? My first thought would be Totem. Punchy, natural sounding, pretty easy to drive, attractive.   What is your preamp? What speakers are you using now?
Speaker Questions
Magnepans are great speakers. Certainly some of the best in their price category. But they need high current amplification and a very natural sounding signal (tube preamp helps)… so good cost of speaker… but support electronics must be up to it.
Where/how to start?
OP… “Then, I can use a wall wart WiFi extender?”   Yes. I have a $100K+ system streaming off a $59 NETGEAR wall wart. Simple and cheap.
Lumin u1 or Aurender N10
OP,   Congratulations. You have purchased a great streamer. Look forward to your impressions. Don’t forget to break it in before getting to attached to your impressions… a couple hundred hours… not hard to do with a streamer on 24 * 7.
Looking for a new (preowned OK) line stage under $5K: suggestions?
@jumia    From my experience DSP is a great way to remove the musicality of a system. While improving… still touching and fiddling with a signal is the quickest way to low FI.
VPI Fatboys versus others in its' tonearm weight class.
OP,   Looking forward to hearing your impressions of your new tone arm. A couple weeks ago I received my upgraded Linn arm for my LP12, Akito ($2.8K) to Ekos SE ($5.6K). Wonderful upgrade. I have to admit it is really helping me enjoy my vinyl (...
How do you judge audio components and speakers?
@skyscraper   Yes my comments on the primary correlation with weight and secondarily with cost was primarily tongue and cheek. But it is also a real correlation. I have noticed over the decades. I brought this up with my dealer friend that has ...
This cable game is making my head spin
OP,   No question speaker cables are really important. I would say in most cases they are the most important. If I upgrade my system, they are the first thing I look for. Cardas are warm, accentuate the bass relative to the details and can hide...
Tube noise when gain is increased, tube issue?
I have about thirty tubes in my system… no noise… no hiss, no hum or buzzing what so ever.
