Starting from Basically Scratch. Help me power some Wilson Watt Puppys
First just a high level perspective. As a rule of thumb, to get the most out of your equipment you need to balance the sound quality of each of your components. To do this, you have to do a lot of research and carefully choose compatible and appro...
Buying Equipment Based on Philosophy???
The technical design philosophy has absolutely nothing to do with my purchase decisions. Great way to make poor choices. To me, except in the lowest level equipment. Now, the design philosophy of Audio Research and Conrad Johnson is not technicall...
What is the best way to clean Vinyl?
@fleschler Thanks for your remarks. I just can’t imagine. I guess, while misic has been a really central theme of my life… and at its core… the music I collected… I can’t conceive of the numbers you are talking about. But then, I have travelled...
Convincing your local dealer to let you try speakers at home
@kevn   Your analogy of a person putting together a car… like choose an engine, a transmission, body and assemble them to be a great car. Excellent. There are so many variables, like weight distribution… it would be really hard for a hobbiest t...
Best sounding headphones you have owned?
You know, it is funny… I keep thinking it would be my Focal Utopia… but it is my Sennheiser HD800’s that I listen to by far the most… 95% of the time. I seldom listen to my Beyerdynamic T2, Audez LCD 2, Ultrasonde Edition 9, Denon 9000 (?)… or my ...
Glare with Qobuz…
I do not find any glare what so ever on Qobuz. No changes what so ever. I listen to Qobuz about three hours a day. I listen to about one vinyl album a day… so, I constantly have that ruler.
Cables from amp to preamp or longer speaker cables…
Short speaker cables and long interconnects. Over the last fifty years I have tried both. Depending on your equipment, generally the quality of the interconnects between preamp and amp are more important than whether or not they are single ended o...
Luxman 590AX II Break-In
OP, Congradulations!   You have made a big step forward. It sounds like you did your research and found the sound that matches your aesthetic. And, I am pretty sure, lack of bass is not an issue. To my surprise I found the most recent Luxman lac...
If you had $12k / £10k to upgrade your analogue front-end...
There are so many choices. I think my initial comment is that I would recommend close to a 50 - 50 split between phono stage and TT / cartridge. Personally I would find the highest level used Audio Research or CJ and spend 40% of my budget on that...
What is the best way to clean Vinyl?
@fleschler   Wow! That is an incredible number of albums. I have been collecting since the late 1960’s . I have 2,000. I remember about 35 years ago making nearly daily trips to a record store next to campus (after college… I had money) and the...
Are There Improvements that Can Be Easily and Quickly Made Without Buying More Stuff?
@woofman74    +1
New streamer? N150 vs U2
I would like to say something useful. I have read many reviews of Lumin… an excellent streamer. I also own two Aurender and after my experiences researching  and auditioning an streamers, no question I would go with Aurender. It is all they do and...
Headphones vs speakers….
OP,   You can see my systems under my ID. I have been I proving my main system since the 1970’s I got serious about my headphone system around 2007. I improved my headphone system to the point that when I listened to my main system, I was comple...
Why don't higher end amplifiers come with a separate power chassis?
This is an educated guess. Most amps, at the highest level are monoblocks. Most of the highest level preamps are two box (power supply separated from the amplification). So preamps are amplifying very low level signals and the important part is ke...
Need tube help!
I would definitely listen for a long time to the tubes that came with it. You want to know your system… this is your reference. Then think about changing things,
