Educate me about DSD I joined in to learn a bit more about DSD. Somewhere along the way I tried some… DSD files, they sounded fine (on a previous system). I fiddled with buying downloads… of different resolution, my ripped CDs,… all my vinyl… etc. since buying downloa...
How much does a DAC do the more expensive it is? @charles1dad …”I would also prefer the natural sound presentation over the hyper detailed type of presentation.” +1 I completely agree. First that there are a lot of components with different ultimate sound goals… and consequently sound very dif...
Fantasy or reality? Inexpensive solid state preamps that get you 80% there? I owned an Audio Research SP-5 in 1980 for nearly ten years. For its time it sounded very good… it was the most expensive preamp I could afford (used). Great solid construction. A bit lean on the midrange and bass. The way I look at it, there ...

Nordost Power Cords - Versions and Combinations @kota1 Yes, those are fakes. There is a very long thread on the subject. Just to be able to speak with some knowledge on the subject, since I have heard Nordost Oden 2 in my system… they are fakes and do not remotely sound like the real thing.
How hot is hot when moving from class a/b to to a or tubes? Also, on warm up. It depends. I could talk about the warm up on the previous versions of Audio Research preamps, in great length. But I really don’t notice much of any with the current Reference models. While earlier warm ups were only 10 to 15 mi...
How hot is hot when moving from class a/b to to a or tubes? I have all Audio Research Reference gear… nearly 40 tubes. 140 watts per channel. I just went over and held my hand around one of the power tubes… it was slightly hot… touching it, it felt very warm… maybe hot… but you would have to work to get it...
Should I upgrade my speaker cables? i agree, welcome. I would say it is likely you can improve the sound of your system with a different choose. Not so much because of the change in wattage… more in terms of a cable upgrade. My experience is that upper end Nordost are really goo...
Tube or solid state @earthbound I have all tube equipment. I am retired and get to listen to my system for about two to three hours a day. I have replaced two tubes in two and a half years (of the ~40) the sound quality well worth it.
Speaker placement. Hi @jawfx01 It would be great to see your system. This would help in making recommendations. There is a place to put photos.. and identify your components. There are so many variables, and many depending on your speakers and components. It w...
Bi-Wiring Bi-wiring and bi-amping… two completely different topics.
Post “Three Blind Mice” Japanese Jazz @jwei Thanks for bringing up Three Blind Mice. An early audiophile recording, I bought Misty. I brought it out today… great recording. Really enjoyable.
Speaker Cable Recommendations - Under 2k Just a reminder that wires are not better for all… like there is poor quality to good quality and this applies to everyone. While this is generally true with really inexpensive wires, it is not true with mid to high end wires. It depends on your s...
8-10k budget suggestions please Ok, if you were listening through your phone using bluetooth, then you are in for a treat… that is about the worse possible combination… OK, better than MP3… or a transistor radio. You need to be streaming through a connected device… so Tidal… or ... |
