Im looking for the next upgrade. I'm not real sure which way I want to go Help!
I would recommend a Audio Research tube preamp. This would be the next step in refinement and fidelity. I would recommend buying used and look in the $5K range.   Enthusiasm for this pursuit is key and admirable. The increases in fidelity are ne...
Mono block Sonic difference $5k vs $25k
I am fortunate enough to own an Audio Research Reference 160s stereo amplifier ($22K) and my dealer / friend has lent me a pair of Audio Research Reference 160m monoblocks for the last year. So I know them both well. In the past (up until about t...
Looking for preamp recommendation
OP, go used. You can drop down to a level you can afford. If you look 5 - 10 years old. I bought used until I could afford new.
Transparent interconnect Cable, Super versus ultra
They have a trade in policy. But when I have inquired the discount was so low, I just chose to keep them for my secondary systems or experimenting. I have not inquired about adjacent models.
Newbie want to improve what I have
Congratulations. Nice speakers. NAD is a brand many people start with. Good start. If you have just completed assembling this, you may not want to swap boxes yet. You want to become very familiar with the sound but aid with cable choices like you...
Do speaker cables really make a difference ?
@tjag    Yep, the audio Quest Hurricane had the same effect on my system the Paul talks about with his reference system.
Counter weights on your turntable...another dirty little secret?
A great reason to find a reputable local dealer. While I have used turntables for over sixty years I do not have the patience or interest in fiddling with them. In my opinion purchasing from the web is good for accessories. My dealer sells a lot o...
Bob Carver tube amps
I have followed Bob Carver over his career. Sometimes there are guys that think outside of the box and try different approaches to things. That is Bob. But I would never buy a Carver product… short attention span and poor at execution. Flamboyant ...
Power conditioner vs use of a audio grade outlet?
The small upgrades are additive. With the tiny cost involved a high end outlet is a no brained.
Looking for preamp recommendation
I owned Pass amps for decades and the best match was Audio Research preamps. The Phonostage is as important as the preamp and is best in a separate box… Audio Research also makes some of the finest. I have also owned Pass preamps. I highly recomm...
Powered speakers show audiophiles are confused
OP, go to your profile you want “your Virtual Systems”. Click around, you’ll find it.
Types and reason to use of not
Hold it. You bought a $200 turntable with an internal Phonostage? And $10,000 of amps. Ok, we need to talk.   While you must carefully choose your components. But a general rule of thumb would be: Turntable $5K, Phonostage $5K, preamp $5K, amp $...
Bi-amped system
I remember those speakers. I liked them. If you want more midrange bloom I would look at your preamp and source. Although, someone can maybe recommend some warmer tubes.    We can probably help more if you show your system under your UserID. It ...
Advice on Repairs for Audio Research VT100 Mk II
Op, I definitely understand your dilemma. Honestly, I think the repair estimate is absurd. thirteen hours.   Also, calling ARC is in no way “going behind your repairman’s back”. That is an absurd quote.  Audio Research makes some of the best a...
