Top two most important sound qualities Rhythm & Pace, and tonal balance. Good question… but two is pretty limited. But I understand what you are trying to get at. If you had asked me over the years starting in the 1970’s to now I think each decade would be different. Probabl...
Why are People Dumping their Audio Research Gear and What Does it Say about them? I am listening to an all ARC Reference system as I type this. It is the most incredible system I have ever heard (and I have heard dozens of much more expensive systems over the decades) and amazes me daily how magical and musical it is. It took ...
Sat front row at the symphony... @brunomarcs There have been great concert halls for hundreds of years. Many great ones available to us were built in the 1920’s. They are great acoustically and aesthetically. I am not sure when I attended my first… probably Chicago in th...
Digital Dilemma OP, I had a look at your system. Looks like you have about $10K in your preamp and amp or an average of $5K / base component. So, you should be looking at a Streamer and a DAC for that price range. Don’t worry about interconnects, those come a...
Center Channel Dialogue OP, First of all, I am really sorry to hear the problem you are having. Second, there is something very wrong. We have had a great home theater system and a bedroom system (currently a 65” with a Sennheiser Ambeo sound bar) for at least 30 yea...
Amps on top? That one is new to me. In 50 years of pursuing the high end, most of the time my amps weighed well over 100 pounds and went on the floor. If you are lucky enough to have mono blocks they definitely sound best placed within a foot of their speak...
Digital Dilemma Thanks, then the answer is easy. A get a good quality streamer and a good quality DAC. I recommend separates. Not sure your system / interest levels, but <~$2K or so per component is budget gear. You can expect a sizable improvement over $3.5K ...
Digital Dilemma What is your streamer? Since you found the CD to sound better than the stream using your DAC that points to the streamer. I think also it seems your DAC is not much if at all better than the one in your CD player. Ok, no insult intended here....
Parasound to Pass Upgrade First of all, I owned a x350 for over ten years__ granted in a fairly large room… but it never got more than warm. And some of you have $10K amplifiers and no air conditioning? Seriously?
Why are People Dumping their Audio Research Gear and What Does it Say about them? Crazy. If I did not have an all Audio Research system, I would be a buyer. Audio Research, in my opinion makes the most musical sounding equipment on the market today. Which is why my system is full of it (see my system under my USRID). I was hap...
McIntosh to Luxman? Luxman and MacIntosh could not be much more different. Luxman is rather evenly tonally balanced but with forward treble and lean midrange and bass and big on buttons and dials. MacIntosh is very heavy midrange and bass. Mac… the “muscle car”… Luxm...
Can a better power cable make a difference if NOT plugged directly into an outlet? @stuartk 🤣👍
Should headphones be plugged in when tube headphone amp is on? Good question. I always have my headphones plugged in when my tubed headphone amp is on. It is a just in case practice, almost like a superstition. It probably doesn’t mater… maybe someone did the research, I never have.
Ripping CD's You are talking about doing something one might have done fifteen years ago. A newer approach would be: You could just rip them all to a USB drive or computer hard drive or Network accessible drive and create play lists. This was the contemporary...
Parasound to Pass Upgrade The Pass x series produce little heat. I had X350 for over ten years. Under load it gets a little warm. Pass xSeries amps are very good for solid state. To me much more musical than the Parasound. |
