OMG Moment
It really does. Hearing, particularly with trained listening skills and it is amazing how sensitive they can be. Over the last fifty years, I was shocked to find how subtle vibration control, wires, power cords… etc, can make a difference.
Cable upgrade
OP, A lot of audio equipment will flip flop in sound quality around 120 - 180 hours. Just an fyi. After 200 hours things tend to settle down and slowly improve. Some equipment leveling out at 300 - 400 hours. My Audio research equipment reached i...
Used vs. new
OP,   You have no way to audition?. I would think about that. These are, I think $7K speakers. It would be worth 10% of that to experience them? I am sure you can drive or fly to a city with B&W on display. Make it a weekend trip for the fun...
Why do I need a switch?
You can get improved sound by fiddling with the network or buying a better streamer. I would prefer to buy a better streamer. So, my system sounds fantastic plugged in to my wall wart WiFi extender (to my Nighthawk modem / router) next to my syste...
Spending a month's salary
Your question is which first… definitely speakers. @hoosierinohio …”audition…” +1   You want speakers that really appeal to your emotions. In the long run speakers typically will be between 30 - 35% of system… but no set rule. Most of us do t...
Pro-ject vs Rega
We need some hint on your values in sound quality and the rest of your system, maybe the kind of music you listen to.   Theres a place under your UserID to put some photos of your system and ID your components. This is really helpful for us.
Fee for home audition
@lalitk  +1   Get it broken in… maybe optimize the interconnect and power cord,.. then start looking.   I agree Berkeley and I would add Audio Research. I have had both in my system and slightly preferred the Audio Research… and it was less e...
What's all the fuss about late 70s and earl 80s run of the mill midfi turntables?
Beats me… nostalgia I guess. they did not sound that great then and todays turntables are much better.
Used vs. new
What is your system, audio history. Speakers from the same manufacturer at the same level in each generation sound cut from the same cloth… but better. There is no reason to release a new model without improvement.   Do you turn audio equipment...
Can an IEC socket be too short?
Or, better yet, get a better power cord. Power cords make a big difference sonically and high quality power cords have very tight fittings. The most recent addition of tight fitting is the AudioQuest storm series… they are so tight that I must hol...
How to test speaker cables by ChatGPT
Haha! Sounds like AMR.
Speakers and amplifiers show audiophiles are confused.
OP… “With this in mind the best system should be the most natural sounding with the most headroom to accommodate different genres. ” This is a very good thought. Yes. But, as all things in high end audio it is not easy. For me, I took disks with...
I just moved and insurance
My system $100K+ is covered under my homeowners policy. My friend and audio buddy is my insurance agent. I also have a sloo of cameras. I have asked, he says no special rider needed. I use State Farm. Just get out your iPhone and film the stuff yo...
To extend Ethernet to remote location, are Powerline extenders or Mesh systems better?
The bandwidth required by streamed music is tiny. Good quality streamers cashe the files, basically isolating you from all but the most unreliable data streams.   My streamers perform completely reliably through wall wart extenders while I canno...
getting into streaming
OP,   OK, do not panic, by the above advice. First of all, you have to ask yourself what quality level you are looking for. If you want streaming to be on par with your CD sound quality, then you probably need to carefully choose a high quality ...
