Berkeley Audio Design and MQA? @8th-note +1 I have compared red book CDs with Qobuz FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) and they sound identical.
Streaming Curious OP, So what is your current vinyl rig and phonostage… and the rest of your system? We really need to know to be of any help. There is a place to put photos and ID your equipment under create virtual systems. That would be really helpful.
Using a streamer to DAC to power amp, should I insert an integrated I would agree that an integrated amplifier would be a good choice. If you are interested in very good sound quality then one with only an amp and preamp. An integrated all in one is unlikely to sound great unless it is something like a Linn. Cont...
Change Revel BE driver color to black? I would trade them in for equivalent or better speakers with black cones. Paint will change one or more characteristics of the cones, magic marker would likely look uneven (every time I tried coloring something with a marker it has looked terrible).
Kids, Dogs, and Speakers I used to have Olympica 3. They are stable and sound very natural and musical, I very good sound if you like this kind of sound.
Replacement tube recommendation for a Mcintosh amplifier? @elliottbnewcombjr +1 yep, it is a pretty simple logical task of switching tubes to isolate it to one or a few tubes. From what you said it is in one of your amps… so you can use the tubes in the good one to trouble shoot the one with the noi...
vibration control - cd player Yes, it is very likely your player can benefit significantly from vibration control. How much will depend on the rest of your system. So it would be helpful to know what the rest of your system is. There is a place under your ID to post photos and...
Most impactful for playing soft I have also observed the better the system, the better it sounds at low volume. Each tier up sounded better at lower volumes. I suspect that there is more to it than that. That a sub $100K system can sound great at really low volume. But I am unsu...
ARC LS25 mkii vs ARC Ref 5se I currently have a Ref 6SE, prior I had a Ref 5SE and have listened to LS27 and LS28SE. The Reference series is definitely a step up in sound quality, just like the LS28 SE is a step up from the LS27SE. I’d say the LS to Ref of the same genera...
Streaming Curious I don’t know how you are with dipping toes in. But that is a ticket to spend a lot more money by incrementally climbing to get to where your satisfied with digital. well, at least that is the way it would work for me. Let’s start with the curr...
Interconnects Make sure it is well broken in, several hundred hours and lots of listening time. Only then try swapping in a better interconnect when you know the new sound of your system inside and out. Borrow from desler or Cable company. also your equipme...
Interconnects It is likely you are leaving sound quality on the table. Consider Transparent interconnects and AudioQuest Storm series. I have had Audio Research preamps and Pass amps for decades although I moved to Audio Research amps now. At the level of p...
Aurender Model Choices I own an Aurrender N100 and W20SE and have had significant exposure to the N10 and N20 as well as a number competing streamers. Aurrender would always be my choice. In general, each level represents a substantial improvement in sound quality, in a...
Change Revel BE driver color to black? The weight of a berillium tweeter diagram is on the order of 5 to 10 miligrams. A mid-sized duck feather is 200 mg. Let’s spray a light coat of paint on that… what double the mass? I don’t know but it will be a non trivial weight change.
Breaking (burning) in new DAC I actually have some budget Schiit components that I can connect a new DAC to in order to break in. Do you have an office system or spare components laying around? |
