Recommendation Request for Tube Power Amplifier
I too have used solid state amps for nearly four decades, staying away because of the same reasons you state. In retrospect I am sorry that I wasted so much time. My tube amps have autobiasing and slow warm ups to increase tube life. Although in r...
Dr. Feickert Analogue Woodpecker turntable
Congratulations and thanks for sharing your experience with your new turntable.   I think most of us that have been pursuing high quality sound for a long time have had more than one experiences like this. And if you doubled your investment agai...

No conductor is not Roon. However, there are lots of ways to discover new music. A tab with all new albums, new by genre, there are thousands of internet radio stations. Conductor is well regarded and I I cannot say enough about its sound quality,...
Upgrade thoughts
Oops, in my comment I intended to say upgrade the preamp… for some reason I said amp in the second paragraph. Hope that was not too confusing.   Preamps with tubes should not at all be difficult. The analysis is exactly the same as any other com...
Is My Tube Amp Unfixable? Help Needed
Wow. If it is under warrantee can you get your money back? I mean they can’t fix it. Take a video of it not being connected and the sound it is making for proof.
Upgrade thoughts
Looking at your great system that is fairly well balanced what sticks out to me as opportunities is your preamp and your speakers. I would recommend a high quality tube amp long before an amp change. A great one like an Audio Research Reference, ...
seeking advise please on my short list for new speakers? (15k budget)
OP,    That is a really great budget range. There are really excellent sounding speakers in that category. I remember very well when I made the step into that category. Every aspect of sound made a huge improvement.    I recommend looking at So...
Monster m 850 cable upgrades
I highly recommend looking at real high end audio cables. Monster is not one of them. I mistakenly bought a number of Monster products for my home theater a number of years ago. They were a waste of money.   Look into Cardas (this would be my nu...
Streaming music sound quality
Good question.    Generally you cannot tell by what chip or some design detail. The overall design makes the difference.    I own an A&K SP2000 (?)… their flagship a couple years ago. It sounds good for a DAP. One could argue that because it...
Am I broken? Am I stuck? Do I have to return my audiophile card now?
Wow. That is a conundrum.    How about this. Talk, or pay your dealer to audition the new speakers in your home. Then let your ears / heart decide. The problem is you are actually comparing a known with and unknown… You have not heard the new spe...
"Can You Lift Yours?"
@stringreen    Ouch.
Streamer suggestions with both wireless and wired connections
@michaelalan If you do your research and buy best of class then Streamer ~= DAC ~= Preamp ~= amp. Over time for me again and again my end system after an upgrade ends there. Typically my speakers will be the more expensive than my components. I’...
Will China become the poor man’s dealer for high end audio?
@laoman No I have not heard AM. It is always hard to address these outlandish claims, because I would have to be a professional reviewer… and with an enormous amount of time on my hands. But I do have fifty years of experience in pursuing high ...
POWER AMPLIFIER FOR LOW TO MODERATE LISTENING
My system consists of 90db efficient speakers (Sonus Faber Amati) and a 70wpc (ARC REF 160s in triode mode)… it sounds fantastic at the 65db range. I used to run planars of different kinds, and I don’t remembering them sounding great at that leve...
"Can You Lift Yours?"
I now have the lightest amp I have owned since the late 1970’s: 100 pounds. Can I lift it? Well no. But I can move it, put it in a box, or what ever I want to do. I use my problem solving skills, sliders, levers, a hand cart and can do what ever I...
