Speaker Cable Recommendation
@riie    😊
Is Aurender N10 still a good option
The N10 is a very good streamer. There have been sound quality improvements in the next generation. Some folks have said the N200 and N10 sound very similar. But the N10 is a fully fleshed out streamer. I would buy the N10. Then in ten years or so...
Are cable “upgrades” just as likely to make your system sound worse?
I think it most often happens with budget systems. This happened to me when I was just starting off. If you have high quality components, typically a better cable or interconnect will be more transparent and impart less of a tonal shift… so great ...
DAC's from the past, are any of them really worth much today?
I agree that DACs have made a lot of progress… but be careful. There is no question there are significant differences in budget DACs and high end DACs. Taking for example Schiit Yggdrasil as a budget DAC and >$5K (depending on exact brand) like...
Why Streaming Service Sounds ‘Flat’ vs Tune In /Local FM /Radio Paradise
I would recommend any Aurrender streamer. If you can’t afford a new one, get a used one. I have tried them at every level and own a N100 and their flagship W20SE now. I have also tried a number in between the $3K and $22K range… each significant j...
Integrated tube amplifier: 4 ohm or 8 ohm connection?
Definitely try both. Perfectly safe and reasonable to do.
Luxman D07x
I have auditioned a number of Luxman components recently and none of them have been soft or lacked detail. However the definitely lacked midrange bloom, musicality, and natural sound. If you are into flashy shiny sound… they fit the bill.
Why Streaming Service Sounds ‘Flat’ vs Tune In /Local FM /Radio Paradise
The primary issue is your streamer. Better streamers sound better up to the point your DAC or some other part of your system gets in the way. On my systems CDs sound the same as Qobuz streaming of the same resolution. Streaming can sound better s...
surface noise reduction
I puttered around in relatively low - mid end tables and cartridges through about 1980. Like the second coming of the AR TT, Philips, and Gerard… with cartridges like the Shure V15 Well respected, but low to midlevel and absolutely not audiophile....
Replacing surround with sound bar
@erik_squires    Thanks Erik, Now I get it. My main system uses inputs from cable box, AppleTV and DVD player… so we never use the TV as input. All the bedroom stuff is contemporary. Wow, I missed that problem… I was lucky for once.
Speakers 10 years old or older that can compete with todays best,
Looking at this question, I am realizing how hard it is. In order to answer it, you must be familiar with a number of speakers brands… say five and what they sounded like ten years ago and now. More would be better. It would be really hard to comp...
Anyone else suffering with Qobuz tonight
It was fine for me last night. Sure it isn’t your network or internet connection?
Looking for intermediate-step Streamer: better than BS Node and not @ Bartok level pricing
OP,   Streamers performance generally conforms to the audiophile rule that if you invest two or three times more in a carefully chosen component (meaning great quality and crafted to your sound values) then you get a very sizable increase in per...
Looking for intermediate-step Streamer: better than BS Node and not @ Bartok level pricing
In the last couple weeks I helped a friend choose a new streamer / DAC. He had a Yggy and my Aurrender N100 for comparison. We were auditioning a Linn Selekt with only the Streamer / and the mid level DAC (total $12K. ~$4K streamer and $6K DAC). ...
DAC's from the past, are any of them really worth much today?
There has been a lot of progress in making DACs sound much better in the last ten or fifteen years. Like all audiophile gear, really high end gear stays relevant much longer than the lower level stuff. Given the equipment you own, you should prob...
