New Generation Class D - AGD Audion Mkiii upgrade Thanks for sharing. I had a pair of AGD’s in my system and will say they sounded good for the money. There was a bit of lack of refinement on the top end… if I remember correctly. But then I was comparing them to Audio Research Reference 160 m...
Why is solid state more popular when tubes are better? They have different strengths. Those going for the most natural recreation of the musical experience are drawn to tubes.
For those who always dreamed of owning a Nakamichi There is the market for well recognized names. Bell & Howell is a great example. I laughed really hard at that one. Also, the Japanese company I worked for Sharp Corp. was purchased in part for the Sharp name by the Chinese company Hanhai.
Costliest Brainfart @jastralfu Ok. I think you get a pass on driving into your garage with a bike on the roof. I bought one and the first time I drove home with it on (no bike). I got to the garage and looked at it and thought, there is no possible way sooner o...
Focal Aria 948 Did you spend a lot of time positioning them? Performance is very highly dependent on positioning. Typically I start with the official recommendation and work from there. Distance from back and sidewalls, and triangle size are important. Also,...
Maximum Upgrade Potential There is no question that people’s tastes change over time. They tend to work their way from the obvious parameters like bass and overall detail to imaging, then tonal balance, midrange bloom… etc. as they learn. However, with well established hi...
For those who always dreamed of owning a Nakamichi Wow, the Nakamichi Dragon to that… how the mighty have fallen.
Audio Research reference amplifiers used with RCA IC`s and unbalanced preamplifiers I pulled out my sound meter right after my last post. I think the average was 66db with peaks to 71db. It was at a completely satisfying level. I found the better my system got the less the need was for volume.
What was your first record? Sugar and Spice by The Cryan’ Shames. 1963
Streamer for Goldmund Telos 7 built in DAC? I own two Aurreder streamers and have auditioned others. I highly recommend them, the N200 or N20. Outstanding sound and build quality, and support on all of their models. I recommend keeping the DAC and streamer separate. I fine DHLabs a reliab...
Martin Logan on it's side for center channel ?? No. I am sure that will not work well. The floor stander was made to stand. As @erik_squires pointed out Martin Logan makes several center channels.
Should I Sell My ARC REF 6 and Get A Pass Labs XP-32 Personally, I would not. I have been a Pass fan for frothy years. First moving from Pass preamps, which have never been nearly as good as their amps, to Audio Research. Then moving to Audio Research. Pass makes great equipment. But most fo...
Maximum Upgrade Potential You don’t. Because, even if you get the very best of today (I am an Audio Research fan). By the time you break it in and enjoy it for a few years, there will be a new model that is a step up. Practically speaking. While if you love a certain c...
Being alone with your music In 1963 when I was eleven laying in bed listening to the light turquoise plastic clock radio, on came the first time ever Beatles song played in the US. It was on WLS. I was completely overwhelmed with the amazing sound. Later I would spend late ...
Best way to clean glossy finish on speakers? OP, Yea, looks like that includes both types. |
