dac and streamer or seperates OP, “ …I love vinyl, do tube DAC’s sound more liquid?” In general yes. In my system the vinyl and digital ends sound the same (I carefully chose equipment to do that). Both detailed, but very natural and musical sounding. Also, at my investme...
Do CD Transports benefit much from upgraded power cords? @chocaholic Yes, logic dictates. But the reality is the output is electrical. So, there is an optical reader, this is converted to a digital stream… the whole process subject to vibration, electrical noise, and who knows what else. Like all a...

Why on earth? I’ve watched a couple and just scratched my head. My iPad speakers are great for there size… but watching a video of a system playing music… huh?
Speaker cable lifters. Tinker toys! That is great… perfect.
WiFi Streaming Versus An Ethernet Cable Connection The better the streamer the less the network infrastructure maters. I prefer to put my money into the streamer rather than fiddling with infrastructure. Although the cable, whether a short run from wifi extender or a long run from a router matters.
Speaker cable lifters. Given your amazing system. Absolutely. They are likely to make a small difference, but those add up. They are virtually free in comparison to any of our components. I’d still gently move your amps back. I tested them some thirty years ago…...
What is the science behind audiophile fuses? @mapman ”…device whose job is in fact to burn up and destroy itself when needed…”. Well, yeah, but, in my fifty years of being an audiophile I have never had a fuse blow. I would imagine that is not an unusual experience.
dac and streamer or seperates I recommend separates. I’ve been doing streaming by about every possible way in the last twenty years. Typically the streamer and DAC should be of about equal investment. You want as high a quality you can get in each (picking the very best you...
Audio Research reference amplifiers used with RCA IC`s and unbalanced preamplifiers @newbee Thanks. I have to agree, quality probably more important than type in this case.
WiFi Streaming Versus An Ethernet Cable Connection I use Aurrender streamers now. I find streaming from Qobuz and from internal files exactly the same sound quality. I run both of my streamers from wall wart wifi extenders with a short Ethernet cable to the extender.
Audio Research reference amplifiers used with RCA IC`s and unbalanced preamplifiers @newbee With the 25’ balanced / unbalanced comparison. Where they identical interconnects that were fully broken in?
Audio Research reference amplifiers used with RCA IC`s and unbalanced preamplifiers I have all ARC stuff. I had high end single ended interconnects when I got my ARC amps. Audio Research recommends using balanced (preamps and amps are internally of balanced design). So I got an identical balanced interconnect and tried it. I coul...
Am I wasting money on the theory of Bi-amping? The math never worked for me. If I can afford, say a $5K amp… I cannot afford two. I would always match amps… coherence. There is nothing worse than mixing sound qualities (a planar guy for a few decades). So, if I could afford another $5K for amp...
What is the science behind audiophile fuses? @tonywinga Yes, copper slugs and thunderstorms seem like a very dangerous combination. |
