Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
Speaking of speaker placement, nothing is more accurate and reliable than the XLO Test CD out-of-phase track for determining the absolute position on the floor for both speakers. Ye olde move a little/listen a little technique tends to find the lo...
Can Redbook CD Be Saved
A treated CD can often sound noticably better than an untreated SACD. In any case, there doesn't seem to be much consistency among Redbook CDs or among SACDs or even higher bit rate CDs. It all depends.
Are the CD'S days numbered?
Nothing's quite as boring as an untreated CD.
Should the best systems sound almost identical?
The plot thickens. From Wikipedia:Controversy over Sound QualityAbove all, these instruments are famous for the quality of sound they produce. However, the many blind tests from 1817[6][7] to the present (as of 2006) have never found any differenc...
Should the best systems sound almost identical?
Bad example - all Strads actually do sound the same. That's why the discerning music buff can identify the characteristic Strad sound on recordings by Heifetz, for example.

No guts, no glory. :-)Besides, do you really think the room heater look is art?:-)

In any case, the grills must be removed to get the full Monty.
Likely culprit for harshness at higher volumes?
There are a slew of reasons why the sound gets harsh at higher volumes. Unfortunately, many of the reasons are off of many audiophiles' radar screens. Consequently, addressing the usual suspects such as room anomalies and "mismatched components," ...
Worst record ever?
The first digital LP, Bop Til You Drop, by Ry Cooder was really really bad.
Covering RPG Skyline with fabric
Whatever you attempt to cover the thing with, it will look even funkier. You know, what with the random length protruding blocks and all. Besides, better effort spent damping the thing.Cheers
