Vibration Theory - Isolate or Drain? Perhaps you don't acknowledge or are dismissing the transfer of seismic/structural vibration to the component. I mean, that's really the whole point of isolation. isn't it?
Vibration Theory - Isolate or Drain? "All of these are filters of sorts and there is no such thing as a perfect filter anymore than isolation is perfect or even possible except in the absence of matter. "Hmmmm....that would probably explain the proliferation of vibration isolation de...
Vibration Theory - Isolate or Drain? The best approach is to isolate AND drain. Isolation is not highly effective for frequencies under 10 or 20 Hz anyhow, so residual energy in the system can be dealt with by draining or damping.
Have you treated your listening space? I'll split the difference with you. It's actually spelled anechoic.Tootles
Have you treated your listening space? Uh, of course no one is suggesting turning the room in an anecolic chamber. But there are standing waves and early reflections as well as echos and other effects that really do interfere with the sound. It's a question of how far one wishes to go ...
Have you treated your listening space? Would I kid you?
Have you treated your listening space? Room treatments are not in the signal path so how can they possibly have any effect on the sound? :-)
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend? Speaking of speaker placement, nothing is more accurate and reliable than the XLO Test CD out-of-phase track for determining the absolute position on the floor for both speakers. Ye olde move a little/listen a little technique tends to find the lo...
Can Redbook CD Be Saved A treated CD can often sound noticably better than an untreated SACD. In any case, there doesn't seem to be much consistency among Redbook CDs or among SACDs or even higher bit rate CDs. It all depends.
Are the CD'S days numbered? Nothing's quite as boring as an untreated CD.
Should the best systems sound almost identical? The plot thickens. From Wikipedia:Controversy over Sound QualityAbove all, these instruments are famous for the quality of sound they produce. However, the many blind tests from 1817[6][7] to the present (as of 2006) have never found any differenc...
Should the best systems sound almost identical? Bad example - all Strads actually do sound the same. That's why the discerning music buff can identify the characteristic Strad sound on recordings by Heifetz, for example.
Should the best systems sound almost identical? Too many variables. Time of day, day of week, room acoustics, local seismic vibration characteristics, associated cabling, local power behavior, tube selection, CD treatments, etc.
