@austin, +1Better yet, put some more money into an amp and DAC.Bob
Speaker plinth material bottom ported Zu Omen Defs
@rar1 ,Unless something has changed, Zu always recommends leaving about 1/4 inch gap between the bottom of the speaker and the floor for their bottom ported speakers.I see those plinths you are using have a waffle design, which may be allowing the...

Speaker plinth material bottom ported Zu Omen Defs
@stereo5 ,That's why I said he might have to re-angle them.Or, maybe raise his seating as well. It would keep it dry should he get a leak. There are wifi alarms that would alert you should moisture be present.Bob

As an owner of an old house that occasionally get water in the basement, I can understand your concern.I would think raising them might change the leveling/angle of the speakers, but bass performance should not be affected.Bob
Compact DAC + Amp
You could do what I did:Buy a couple of McCormack Power Drives and have Steve upgrade them to monoblocks (about 120wpc).Buy an Ayre Codex DACIf you can find non working amps, all the better as Steve guts the amp and practically rebuilds it from sc...

Well, I think the only way is to try it. If it turns out too bright, you could add a bit of felt or maybe a piece of carpet over the marble. But, you might just give Zu a call to get their take on it. They do answer calls. I believe his name is Ger...

I would get a Vandy sub, if possible the new Sub 3, which has an equalizer built in to contour to room acoustics. You'll need to buy either the fixed crossover or M5-HP to match your amps impedance.Bob
Big speakers in small room at moderate volume levels
If you want something stand mounted the Vandy VLR is exceptional for the money. I have them in my office, using them off axis (actually mounted near the ceiling corners on wall mounts). Very nice and relaxing, and detailed. I have listened to them...
Audioquest Makenzie XLRs
This thread seems to have run its' course, but I'll bite.Paying more doesn't necessarily relate to better performance. Most manufacturers will stage their products with greater resolution in conjunction with price. Also, system symmetry comes into ...
Vandersteen sub question
@tomic601 I forgot about a Y-splitter. Having no experience with REL subs, I didn't know there was way to avoid the internal crossover. You da' Man...Bob
Vandersteen sub question
+1 Tomic.Considering how the M5-HP is filtering frequencies above 80 or so hertz, if you added the REL via the speaker connections, then it would be receiving a filtered signal (-6 db? at the crossover point). I don't know if you would be able to ...
mono block or bi-amps which would you pick?
I, too, had a bad time with Sound by Singer. It wasn't the money, but the attitude. I can't believe they are still in business. In any case, I hope to hear you review.Bob
