Help me understand cartridge alignment
@gregchick0 , your unusual but sincere post made me curious and so I viewed your posts in the last month since joining this forum. You sound like an interesting person, truly. So sorry for the thread drift but how about telling us more about yours...
Stereo cartrdge now playing mono!!
You will likely find your answer here https://www.vandenhul.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Phono_FAQ.pdf As A.J. explains, many times it is due to the very fine wire from the magnet assembly/transducer to the pins sustaining fatigue-failure. The ...
Help me understand cartridge alignment
Beware.  Many so-called high-end cartridges do not have accurately mounted stylii.  They are often out by a few degrees, nulling all the efforts we make in set-up. Uh,what does a linear tracker do to solve problems with stylii not mounted squar...
Help me understand cartridge alignment
I have said this before and will say it again. VTF, leveling, azimuth, and twist (horizontal alignment) are far more important than "optimum" spindle to stylus distance aka overhang. If you resort to a spherical stylus even twist is not crucial. A...
How I Beat the System to Nab an Unbeatable System
Ralph may do great repairs but his website has the cheesiest template photos and wallpaper I have ever seen. Like this photo;
Has the ASR review/hatchet job on the Musetec MH-DA005 Changed Anyone's Mind?
Let's keep things in perspective. For thirty years Stereophile has measured and analyzed the measurements of tube amps by the same standards as SS amps and found them wanting-often in contrast to the listening impressions. For twenty years Stereop...
When were the best tube amps made?
Probably from 1998 or so to present by Wavac. Not a good value, but taking things to the extreme, no one else has done or attempted to do what Wavac has been doing.
VTA my compromise in setting
For the first time in a while I agree with mijostyn. And testpilot. I have very expensive cartridges and on-the-fly VTA adjustment. I also rely upon the amazing Brian Walsh to set up my tables. I have had the pleasure of having him to my home five...
Advice on Repairs for Audio Research VT100 Mk II
I agree with you Ralph and have a great Thanksgiving. As I said, ARC made some clunkers. Some of their amps were almost impossible to bias without taking to a good technician. And many dealers were forced to become proficient at replacing power tu...
Advice on Repairs for Audio Research VT100 Mk II
There are 8 power tube 100 ohm 5% 3 watt screen resistors. (Part # 43100208) ARC uses the resistors as fuses. Yes, in contrast to what Ralph said this was not an engineering goof (though some would maintain it is) but a conscious design choice ...
Advice on Repairs for Audio Research VT100 Mk II
ARC amps are built well and tend to be reliable. Until they're not. I believe most ARC experts and fans will admit that there were some clunkers along the way, in terms of sound, design and reliability. I had a VS110 (which was the lower-tier amp ...
Lyra Kleos arrives after eight months. . Worth the wait? First impressions
Actually Luzmans' top phono stage has very little ability to change the cartridge loading. If he was to invest in a phono stage he would be better off with a different brand - there are many posts on this forum on the lack of adjustability with t...
Lyra Kleos arrives after eight months. . Worth the wait? First impressions
Fsonicsmith I wish I’d have the same capabilitites on my Luxman integrated amp’s phono stage to make the adjustments you have tried. For better or worse those settings are fixed for either a mm or mc cartridge on my integrated amp, but that’s it....
Lyra Kleos arrives after eight months. . Worth the wait? First impressions
I have the Etna. See my profile (if you like). With my Reed 3P arm which comes with it's own wire from clips to RCA's and a Manley Steelhead I prefer the 50 ohm setting over 100 or 200. It seems the autoformers in the Steelhead do some unique thin...
ARC ref 110 tube bias prob
Yeah, I know I lent you my 2 cents in your original thread but I was wrong. I think only a circuit problem like the above referenced resistor could explain your Fluke reading.
