Why does a dent to a tweeter not affect sound quality? My ears are not good enough to tell, but it can be measured. Are you talking about whizzer cones, oldhvy?
Quality outlets for non-audio I second the Hubbell recommendation, put a few in my folks place. Leviton has been find for me so far, but the ones I replaced were Leviton. Just installed some Acme Audio outlets for audio, TV and computer rooms. Now those suckers are TIGHT.
Center channel I tried for almost 20 years and about $100k in various electronics and speaker arrangements, finally gave up last year and sold all my surround sound stuff. The sound coming from different locations was cool during movies, but the clarity and deta...
jbl speakers The first time I heard the Paragon I was very impressed. They still sound good, but just too big. I personally prefer a pair of modified Hartsfield with 2405 tweeters. JBL still makes some excellent studio monitors that are much smaller and maybe ...
Nakamichi DR-10 Cassette Deck Repair I agree, Willie is the best on the West coast and reasonable. If you're thinking about doing it yourself, Nak Talks is the site to read.
Headphone amp on Pre-Amp with no available Tape Loop Sounds good to me, +1 jason.
Your thoughts on active loudspeakers lonemountain - Got a chuckle out of your "active is so poorly understood" comment. Active speakers are generally great, but with the cheap class D amps available, one needs to actually listen. I've been bi-amp and tri-amping for 40+ years, but use...
what is the purpose of the analog part in the DAC It filters, isolates and amplifies the output from the DAC to a usable level. Typically, the better the analog stages are, the better the overall sound will be.
Is my speaker broken? (Sony SRS-XB12) Sounds like it has a serious problem. If not under some warranty, contact a good service technician.
Distortion It is highly unlikely you would be able to any harmonic distortion less than 0.5%. Just make sure not to clip the amplifier!
why is the right channel on my cassette deck inaudible? Don't use a "soldering gun", those are bad news. If you're going to do your own repairs, invest in a good pencil iron.
HELP! I bought equipment drunk, don’t know anything. Good luck, hope you know something about the assembly of electronics. Otherwise sell the kit and move on.
Subs And The Downstairs Neighbors I agree, DON'T go with a downward firing sub. They just sound pretty bad overall.
Using step up / down transformers? GOOD transformers will not degrade sound. +1 millercarbon, there is a reason they are still used today in audio. I always double the power requirement specification of the equipment to get the power rating of the transformer.
Subwoofer B&W ASW610 vs. SVS SB3000 The Bowers sub doesn't go as low as the SVS 3000, so deeper bass from the SVS. Rather than replace the B and W, add an SVS. You really should have more than 1 subwoofer. |
