More watts or better power ? More power definitely, NO question.
Rotel RA-1592 MK II or something else to deliver around 200W to B&W towers around $3000? Again... Bryston, very good amps, great sound, slew rate of 60v/µs, can buy used with warranty from factory, 5 year warranty. You can do used separates for less than $3k. You really should listen to them!
Change the Power Voltage Why don't you run it off 220/240 vac? I have found that amplifiers sound better if you run them on the higher voltage. Of course that will mean installing a special outlet, but not that difficult really.
Speaker magnets Generally the bigger/higher gauss the magnet has, the better. Yes over time the permanent magnets do get weaker, but they can be reenergized. I still have some Altec and JBL from the 60-70's, great speakers, Alnico magnets. The newer Neodymium mag...
Rotel RA-1592 MK II or something else to deliver around 200W to B&W towers around $3000? If you're willing to buy used, you should focus on that. I'd look at Bryston, high slew rate, low distortion. You can get separates for less than $3k used. Rotel is okay, but mine became noisy after awhile. So many good amps out there, good luck. ...
Your thoughts on active loudspeakers Added note: The original TL074 op-amp slew rate was 13v/µs, new LM6172’s are 3000v/µs. Noise and distortion is also lower. Make your own crossovers and enjoy.
Manley Amp is humming - troubleshoot :( I use a magnifying glass now. Also freeze spray is a good way to find a problematic component or at least section, good luck.
L-Pads. Speakers Awful Without Them, New Ones Ordered OP I did read your entire post, but guess I missed your comment about fixed resistors and switches. I will refrain from commenting on any other of your posts, sorry. If you listen closely L-pads add noise.
Poor Product Reviews? No Problem. Just Erase Them!! I thought Walmart would help buyers with problems from sellers on their website like Amazon does!
Trying to Help My Nephew With His First Venture Into High End Audio For me, no tubes in a starter system. Marantz CD63 is decent, but found a CD67 and that is noticeably better. I’m not big on Rotel stuff, the ones I’ve owned were noisy. Any sub? I just gifted my nephew some modified KLH 355 Barons.
Downward firing subwoofer I would just replace the sub, sell old one if you can. Just don't buy another downward firing sub, I don't like them.
what is the best cassette tape maker in your experience? No I never bought cheap tapes as I plan to keep them and didn't want to lose material.
L-Pads. Speakers Awful Without Them, New Ones Ordered Fixed resistors always sound better for trimming driver output. With older speaker designs L-pads were needed to make the speakers more versatile. Fixed resistors on switches is a great replacement to L-pads. Tone controls definitely don't cut it,...
what is the best cassette tape maker in your experience? For me, TDK beat Maxell every time. I did like the TDK Audua when budget was tight.
Rare Vintage Find : "Norman Laboratories electronic crossover - amplifier System 12" Post deleted, inaccurate. Looks like each box contains 2 amps which could drive one 2-way speaker in a bi-amped, not bi-wire configuration. Sorry, I have no idea how to hook them up. I don't understand the terminal labels on the rear panel. |
