"Search Option" suggestion for AudioGon
I think I had suggested awhile back they do a library. However, I don't think it'll get much mileage since there's somethings that are more opinion than fact, like the cables and tubes. It could work and would be nice (I can think of alot of good ...

"Search Option" suggestion for AudioGon
Its ok, I didn't misread it and realized it was for purchasing, but figured why not go a little off on a tangent (which happens alot around here) since it is still forum related.
Confused about 7.1 Formats
Any new speakers (i.e. channels of info whether or not discrete or matrixed) will need more amps. Upstream at the heart of things I'm not sure on the processer and dvd player compatabilities. But you always have the option of not using the additio...
Confused about 7.1 Formats
The 5.1 are all discrete channels. The other higher versions start matrixing the information out of those original. A center rear matrix's the info from the two rears (unless the center rear is actually being recorded as a discrete channel-that I ...
"Search Option" suggestion for AudioGon
Sounds ok to me, can't see any real harm from a buyer's perspective. One other feature I always thought might be kind of nice on the forums (and I know diyaudio.com has this) is a section before you submit a new thread that asks "did you search th...
Need a "short list" of best Subwoofers for M.L.'s
Look for something with a nice low system Q (no higher than 1, preferably .5) well-damped, with a tank-like cabinet-that'll give you that subjectively 'fast' bass.
wattage difference between SS and Tube
Tubes generally have less power (about half) than comparably priced ss units, because the parts for a tube amp just cost so much more. Transistors are superior in performance for less money under most circumstances. I'm not a tube fan for the most...
Question: Does ATC have the best midrange driver?
Internal damping, crudely, is the ability of the driver's material to absorb the standing wave/refelcted wave that forms on the front "inside" the cone. Someone else please say it better if you can cause I know I know what I'm talking about halfwa...
Ribbon Tweeters
The lack of extension beyond 20khz isn't/shouldn't be an issue since less than 1% of the adult population can even hear above 20khz (or actually: 1% can hear to 25khz). The fidelity laws are still set at 20hz-20khz as being one of the the ideals f...
Question: Does ATC have the best midrange driver?
Audiokinesis makes the point well. With a midrange driver, or any driver, when the wavelength becomes less than the radius of the cone/dome is when the beaming begins. I don't now the math off hand, but this is why 4-4.5inches is about as big as y...
Ribbon Tweeters
Its not really relevant-obviously if its not reproducing a freq. it can't be accurate. But ribbons can go well above 20khz-the ravens go to about 35khz.
Home Theater speakers on a massive budget
Actually, I see Madisound sells it prepackaged under "kits." All five speakers minus the sub is $620: a 3 way center, a pair 2 way MTM's for LR, and a pair 2 way surrounds (plus labor and cabinetry, nothing fancy).
Home Theater speakers on a massive budget
http://www.audax.com/doit/us_ht01.shtmlTweets are $19 and mid/woofs $32 at www.madisound.com Might be the ticket to sonic bliss on a cheap budget. Looks like a nice kit and the whole thing with the sub might be in your budget. I couldn't find any ...
Question: Does ATC have the best midrange driver?
I don't know if they are the best. I know Mr. Dunlavy doesn't feel the dome midranges are worth a flip, and I don't know the physics or reasons behind it. Obviously there is some time delay between sound coming of the edge of the dome versus the c...
