Does subwoofer + bookshelve=full range speaker? " I think it would cost much more to build a 12/15 inches full ranger speaker and it still may not go as deep as a power subwoofer that crossover with smaller speaker"True, but there's more to bass than depth/extenstion. Like output (i.e. how loud...
MIT Love 'em or Hate 'em I'm with you crusty. Not that it matters, but I heard one of those 2C3D systems by Avalon/spectral/MIT/asc--expensive junk.
Relative air humidity on electrostat performance Maybe you should consult Martin-Logan since they designed the thing, if you really think its a problem.
Does subwoofer + bookshelve=full range speaker? I can't say a smaller speaker is going to image better. The only distortion a smaller speaker intrinsically cures is less diffraction. Cabinet resonances also mess up the sound (the 801's and 802's have ceramic heads with non-parallel sidewalls wh...
Does subwoofer + bookshelve=full range speaker? "if you add a subwoofer( assuming a good one) to B&W 805 or Martin logan entry level model . do you get the same performace as N801 or prodigy or more because the subwoofer in many instance will go even deeper than the full range speaker?"NO"i...
Where do I position 4 speakers for 3D stereo sound "However, I have found that the effect is all up front."This could be how it was recorded. High-fidelity (faithful to the source) is one thing, special effects are another. You're basically doing surround sound with music, some discs have far more...
Best efficient, passive sub - Any suggestions? 9 times out of 10 active subs are better, this is still maybe one of those 9. Your sat-5's are 87db efficient in an acoustic suspension design with a manufacturer rated 60hz-20,000hz (w/out any tolerances). If the speakers are flat down to 60hz th...
Where do I position 4 speakers for 3D stereo sound You didn't specify your processing. If you're just going to run two sets of stereo pairs I don't think it'll do much to achieve the effects you want. You'll need some type of processer before placement becomes an issue. Two speakers can do 3D when...
Which upgrade should be my priority? I'm with the others. Lets reedit.1) Speaker stands ($50-whatever) (wood can be nice if done well, if you do metal it must sand filleable. I've used the Cinder blocks myself, I feel like a tweek saying this, but turn them so the holes are facing yo...
What is the worst colour of speaker finish to you? That HotRod version of a Meadowlark--didn't they have flames or something on it? I thought it was tacky as hell (no pun intended: I didn't catch it 'til I finished the next paragraph).Regarding the "banalness"--I do find these threads more interes...
What's your favorite speaker finish? "I wonder how much of a speaker's price goes towards the finish?" Quite a bit actually, or certainly can be. I think Vandersteen addresses that on his site somewhere (or did years ago) and why he likes the "sock" look so he can put money into the ...
Sibilance how do I get rid of it? Correction on RT=reverberation timehttp://www.mcsquared.com/reverb.htm
Sibilance how do I get rid of it? While its true that the human ear can percieve/distinguish between the original and reflected energy the two become interrelated in different ways. A sound wave will bounce around a room an average 60 times (RT-60) before becoming inaudible (as Ri...
DIY Wilson Clone Speakers? http://www.klone-audio.com/Eldragan probably knows the other link with clones--his are featured.Advices:1) You might want to biamp for your low-end. That'll cut you some slack on the xover in different ways. Assuming you're ok with deviating from ...
Subwoofer isolation The big concrete cinder blocks at the hardware store are $.90 each-you know the 8" by 8" by 16" at 25 lbs each with the two big holes in'em. Stack those around and slap a nice cover on the package--mainly for the TT. |
