To Bi or not to Bi? That is the question
If one stereo amp is for the highs and another for the lows--it shouldn't matter assuming their of good quality. www.sound.au.com has an article all about biamping--and its not a hoky one, but not super technical. Click on articles and its the fir...
Tuner in the 600 range for classical music?
I owned a fanfare for awhile...very nice. If you don't have to spend your full amount (like that's something audiophiles think) the tubed dyna fm-3 from 40 years ago is still one of the best around I've heard and can be snagged under $100... or ev...
Anybody Tried this Room Correction Program?
Those digital machines can be impressive--if used properly. I haven't used'em but can't wait--once they've matured enough. Even that site embellishes the virtues a little more than they are. Those systems can't correct for too early boundary refle...
What difference does the "order" make with x-overs
A hundred people are all probably responding at this one. The order refers to the rate of rolloff in db above or below the xover freq. (i.e. high-pass, low-pass filters, all-pass (a combination of the first two)), since a speaker w/ a 3000hz xover...
system matching
Those Plinius are nice. I remember awhile back someone posted a picture of one with the top cover off over on DIYaudio.com--everyone was gooing-gaaing over them, we were especially impressed with the heatsinks. (kind of like audio porn) I agree be...
Arsonists - Please help me with cable burning
And then return the receiver when you are done.
What's the best mid-range driver available?
To ask what the best midrange driver is is even more difficult/impossible to answer as what is the best dome tweeter. There is no best. There are better, then it hits a point where the system has to be accounted for. Loudspeakers are *systems*. If...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
You should edit this post and have it include the type of audio system one has in there car also. '97 Honda Accord Special Edition with Focal 2 way components in the front and rear deck with a Focal 10" free-air sub. Powered by a 5 channel soundst...
Digital cable v. standard interconnects
The digital is a 75ohm cable, whereas the RCA is something like 53 or 43ohms (I don't rememebr). Yes it matters to use the right one.
What's the best sounding dome tweeter available?
When you say dome do you mean both inverted and "regular." The Accuton's and Focals are inverted. What always confuses me a little is the disparity in pricing and how people talk about them. The Morel MDT-33 is only $120 and the Hiquphon's are onl...
Recomendations on a good book anyone..........
Amd use your public library. Saved me $80 reading Martin Colloms "high performance loudspeakers" from there. They'll have some and can do interlibrary lone.
Recomendations on a good book anyone..........
Once you know a little more: Douglas Self's "Audio Power Amplifier Design Handbook" is a good one, although some have a religous stance against it. Randy Slone's "High Power Audio Amplifier Construction Manual" is ok since its half the price of se...
System for Yacht
You should check out the Millenium Yachts down in Florida. Mannn, those are nice. I really, really want the 151' model--I just don't know how many millions I have to have. Its got three inside stories and the top deck. There buses/coaches are nice...
WATT Puppy 6's are being discontinued...
I am probably a little messed up, I know. I was just reading an article over on VMPS audio's webpage called "money in the high end" and they were discussing how some manufacturer's decision about whether or not to sell a speaker for $60,000 or $10...
WATT Puppy 6's are being discontinued...
I heard the Sophia was a little too good compared to the w/p 6. It won't be long before the w/p is up to $30k though. They used to be $10k way back on the first series. The pricing just kind of annoys me. Even if I had the money I don't know if I'...
