Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Charles, I bought 14 AWG teflon tubing from PartsConnexion to go over the leads and it is a good fit. 16 AWG could also work (I bought both 14 and 16 just in case) but would be very difficult to work with if the leads are long (tight). Personally ...
Review: Berkeley Audio Design Alpha DAC Series 2 DA converter
Hi Cam,Sorry I don't know much about the filters. They do change the sound slightly and Berkeley recommends leaving it on filter 1. Not sure whether 16 or 24-bit. IIRC 24-bit sounds a little bigger, maybe a little more open, but less focused. It's...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Oeaohoo, curious which Bel Canto DAC you are using? I used to have the DAC3, two of them in fact. Very nice sounding indeed.I also have the A205A Mk II and love that little thing. Currently using V-Cap CuTF 0.068 uF, which transformed it into some...
Can "Dark"Sounding Speakers Be "Brightened"UP???
As a former SF Concertino owner -- no. You can tune the sound to shift the balance towards more top end illumination but these speakers are very midrange focused with subdued treble such that that is their sonic signature, IMO. Beautiful with voic...
audiophilleo 2
Having used the AP2, JKSPDIF Mk3, Wavelink HS, and Weiss INT203 at the same time I'd say it's a matter of preference. They all sound great, but different. AP2 and Mk3, which are around the same price point, also sound the most different.
USB or Squeezebox Touch from Mac to DAC
You can use USB through your Touch with EDO if the DAC/converter supports the USB Audio standard. I use a Touch connected to a Wavelength Wavelink HS USB converter in my bedroom and it sounds great. However, I think the Mac Mini is the best solutio...
tube gear vs solid state...cable effectiveness
"... cables make more of a difference on solid state and are not as effective on tube gear."Ridiculous in my experience.
Under 1500$ Solid State Amp for Usher Be-718
I used to have the BE-718 mated with a Belles 150A Reference v2. Excellent match - precise, extended, dynamic with punchy bottom end, and smooth. Maybe not the best if you prefer a warmer, rosier sound (I've gone all tube). The Belles is pretty ne...
Belles 150A ref V2 vs Bryston 4BSST2
Marakanetz, are you talking about the 150A Reference (v2) or just the plain 150A -- they are significantly different amps -- and is your opinion based on experience? I've had the 150A Ref v2 and McCormack DNA-1 and the Belles was substantially bet...
Review: Berkeley Audio Design Alpha DAC Series 2 DA converter
Ron, I did try the Uni DAC... actually a demo unit that has one chassis instead of the usual separate power supply. It is the most "analog" sounding DAC I've ever heard. This has been said about the BADA 2 as well but it doesn't compare to the Uni...
Looking for a GREAT preamp under $2000...thoughts?
If you can find it the Von Gaylord LAD-L2 is an outstanding preamp and usually fetches about $2k or less used. Add $300 or so for a pair of Shuguang Black Treasure or Psvane CV-181 tubes and take it up another notch in performance. I largely prefe...
After Blackgates... which caps are best for Audio?
For electrolytics Elna Silmic II are often mentioned to be the best in production. For film it is probably V-Cap CuTF or Duelund VSF, both extremely pricey, but as always it depends on what kind of sound you are seeking. I have not tried Duelund b...
Mhdt Havana, Calyx , Metrum Octave for my setup ?
I haven't listened to the Stockholm, but I am not really enticed by it as it is largely the same as the Havana except that it accepts 192 KHz max input frequency vs 96 KHz with the Havana and also has asynchronous USB input and an added BNC input....
Mhdt Havana, Calyx , Metrum Octave for my setup ?
I've owned all 3. First the Havana, then the Calyx, then the Octave. Now I am using the Havana in a highly modified form -- pretty much all caps replaced, several with V-Cap CuTF, DAC chips, power transformer, diodes, key resistors, WBT silver RCA ...
Auricap XO or Dynamicap?
Or Mundorf? What values? If you feel like treating yourself someday I highly recommend V-Cap CuTF. They are unbelievably amazing. Every application I've added them to has increased performance in every way and at least two fold overall - not exagg...
